💔Heart breaking news on JPod, from the Center for Whale Research 💔

J31 Tsuchi was spotted Saturday October 3, 2026 in the Juan de Fuca Strait near Sombrio Point on Vancouver Island, some 70 kilometres west of Victoria. She was unfortunately seen carrying a deceased calf it is unsure at this time if her baby was stillborn or died shortly after birth.

J31 had suffered previous losses, including failed pregnancies, and was also seen in 2016 carrying a deceased calf.

J31 was born in 1995 and has one surviving offspring, a female known as J56 Tofino , born in 2019.

🐳 7:59 am Lots of humpbacks, looking from doehle street toward ballanas, possibly heading west
🐳9:07 am Humpbacks visible from Doehle St
🐳9:25 am 3 humpback at neck point travelling north west
🐳10:23 am Humpbacks still seen in Parksville, from the estuary. Milling, 2-3 individuals
🐳10:36 am 2 humpbacks mid point between Beachcomber and West Ballenas, heading towards Lasqueti.

✨Night Sky Photo op! ✨
October 5, 2026, skywatchers ~ tonight there will be a waning crescent Moon, Mars, Jupiter, and the Beehive Cluster (M44) appear in the same region of the sky.

The Beehive Cluster contains hundreds of stars ~ it can appear as a faint hazy patch to the unaided eye.
