There has often been some confusion regarding a Marriage License Issuer (Me) and a Marriage Commissioner.
I, as a Marriage License Issuer, have the authority to issue your marriage licence. This licence is legally required by anyone who is planning on marrying in Newfoundland.
As a Marriage License Issuer, I would also be required to register your marriage with Vital Statistics.
I do not have the authority to perform a marriage ceremony. A Marriage Commissioner would be required for this.
You can access a list of both Marriage Commissioners and Marriage License Issuers (I’m on there!) registered in Newfoundland on the Service NL website. I am listed in Cavendish, NL HOWEVER, I DO SERVICE MOUNT PEARL AND CBS AS WELL.
