She knew she wanted to return to nursing. Finding the right path was the challenge.

An internationally educated practical nurse from Japan faced barriers with credential recognition and English requirements when she began exploring her nursing career in Canada.

With support from the Career Paths for Skilled Immigrants (CPSI) program at Douglas College, she explored her options, built her English skills, prepared for her NCAS assessment and navigated the steps toward registration.

After a two-month job search, she landed an LPN position at a local hospital.

Her journey reminds us that with the right guidance and support, barriers don’t have to stand in the way of career goals.

September is Disability Awareness Month, so let's celebrate inclusion, accessibility, and the unique strengths of every person.

September is Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM) in British Columbia, a time to celebrate the skills, talents, and contributions that people with disabilities bring to our workplaces every day.

Creating an inclusive workforce begins with opening doors, challenging assumptions, and recognizing talent.

Looking for a simple way to get started? MentorAbility brings employers and job explorers together for short, meaningful mentorships that build confidence, open doors, and create connections that can make a real difference. Whether you meet in person or virtually, geography doesn’t have to stand in the way of a great connection.

This September, take one step toward inclusion. You might discover your next great employee. Learn more by visiting our webpage

🔐 Protect your SIN like you protect your other personal information.

Your Social Insurance Number (SIN) is sensitive personal information. Knowing when you need to provide it and when you don’t can help protect you from identity theft.

A good rule: Keep your SIN card or document somewhere safe and don’t carry it in your wallet.

Save this tip and share it with someone who may be new to Canada. 🍁
