On August 28, 2026 at 7:19pm, Coquitlam SAR responded to a task for a hiker who had become separated from his hiking group. The group had set out to go to Mount Beautiful and descend down the Swan Falls Trail. The subject ended up in a drainage, off trail, and decided to stay put and call for help.

Teams were deployed and were able to reach the subject at 9:42pm and after a quick assessment decided to proceed off the mountain on foot.

The subject was returned safely to the parking lot and all teams were out of the field by 12:30am.

This task is a good reminder to make sure that you bring 'the essentials' and to stay together as a group.

On August 24, 2026 at 4:20pm, Coquitlam SAR got a request from Ridge Meadows to send our Class D team out to rescue a fallen climber on Edge Peak in Golden Ears Park. This call was initiated as the team was also deployed on a call in Port Moody for a missing senior.

On the recce flight in the subject was spotted on a narrow ridge line just north of Edge Peak. The decision was made to hover exit our two techs on to the ridge-line so we could assess the subject. Once on the ground we assessed the subject who was found to possibly have a broken wrist and a possible left leg break. A request was made to have the helicopter return with the vacuum splints and a third tech with higher medical skills.

Once the splints were installed, and the injured limbs stabilized, we called for a "hot load" hover entry so that the subject could be loaded directly into the helicopter. Once that was done the three techs boarded the helicopter and were all flown down to the West Canyon Base.

We are excited to be setting up a Coquitlam Search & Rescue information booth at the new Widgeon Marsh Park parking lot on August 22 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Come by the booth to meet our volunteers, learn more about Coquitlam Search & Rescue, and find out about the services we provide in our community.

We will also have our survival kits, dog toys, and dog leashes available for purchase.
