When it comes to ensuring a fair, accessible, and efficient justice system for our communities, the SDG Counties Court Services team plays a vital role behind the scenes every day. 👏

Operating under the Provincial Offences Act (POA), Court Services is responsible for the administration and support of cases involving non-criminal offences, including traffic violations 🚗, distracted driving offences 📵, liquor licence infractions 🍺, trespass matters 🚶, and other provincial offences. Since 2001, SDG Counties has been responsible for all court administration and court support functions under the POA within our jurisdiction.

From processing tickets and court documents 📋 to assisting defendants, coordinating court proceedings, and supporting the work of the Ontario Court of Justice, Court Services staff help ensure matters are handled professionally, accurately, and efficiently. ⚖️📝 The team also supports both in-person and virtual court appearances, helping make the justice system more accessible for residents across the region. 💻🤝

Every service delivered by SDG Counties relies on sound financial planning and stewardship. Behind the scenes, the Financial Services team works diligently to ensure public funds are managed responsibly, transparently, and efficiently.

The Financial Services Department provides a broad range of accounting and financial support to all departments, employees, council, and committees. Their responsibilities include preparing annual budgets 📋, processing payroll 💵, managing accounts payable and receivable 🧾, completing financial reports 📈, analyzing financial impacts 📉, maintaining strong internal controls ✅, and ensuring compliance with legislated accounting practices.

Through its Treasury and Payroll divisions, the department oversees everything from revenue collection and banking 🏦 to financial reporting and strategic recommendations for council, while also ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time. 👥💼

Their work helps keep SDG Counties financially strong and accountable while supporting the delivery of essential services that residents rely on every day. 🌟

MORE TRACK REPAIRS AT INKERMAN

SDG Counties has been advised that further repair work is required at the CPKC rail crossing in Inkerman. Recent repair work was of an emergency nature. The new work is taking place to complete the initial efforts.

The closure of the tracks will necessitate a detour, depicted in the image below. The closure takes place begining at 5 a.m. Oct. 27, lasting until 7 p.m. the following day.

🚜🚧 LOCAL GOVERNMENT WEEK: Transportation Services 🚧🚜

When you're driving along a smooth county road 🛣️, crossing a bridge 🌉, or navigating safely through SDG Counties 🚗, there's a dedicated team working behind the scenes to keep our transportation network moving.

SDG Counties' Transportation Services is responsible for maintaining nearly 982 kilometres of roads and 195 bridges across the region, connecting our communities, businesses, farms, and visitors. The department also oversees fleet vehicles and equipment 🚚, forests 🌲, and GIS mapping services 🗺️.

Transportation Services plans and delivers summer and winter road maintenance ☀️❄️, manages capital projects such as road and bridge repairs, installs and maintains signs and pavement markings 🚦, issues various permits 📋, and responds to the infrastructure needs of residents and businesses throughout SDG Counties.

From snowplow operators clearing roads before sunrise 🌨️ to engineers and operators delivering major infrastructure projects 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️, this team works year-round to ensure our transportation network remains safe, reliable, and efficient. ✅

Every year, future physicians choose WDMH to gain hands-on experience in a rural health-care setting. This year, the hospital is training 11 family medicine residents, including five first-year residents and six second-year residents.

EMERGENCY TRACK REPAIR

SDG Counties has been advised of some emergency track repairs at the CPKC rail line near Inkerman in North Dundas. Access to the corssing has been completely shuttered. Please avoid the area.

The crossing is expected to open for motorized traffic at 7 p.m. this evening. We apologize for the inconvenience.
