Our mission is to offer a safe & nurturing environment for women ages 16 + to heal and rebuild. Sexual Assault Support Services for Women of Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry & Akwesasne is a non-profit, grass-root, feminist organization committed to the support of victims/survivors who have experienced sexual violence; and the prevention and elimnation of that form of violence
Our objectives are the
following:
- To work towards the prevention of sexual violence and a better understanding of the impact of sexual violence by educating the community and by supporting and coordinating activities designed to identify and change societal attitudes, practices and instiutions which condone and perpetuate sexual violence
- To provide free confidential support, feminist counselling and groups to women who are survivors of sexual violence
- To provide a twenty - four hour a day, seven day a week telephone crisis line
- To improve the response to and treament of survivors of sexual violence through provision of training and information to other agencies and groups
- To support and coordinate activites which ensure the enforcement of legislation relating to issues of sexual violence
- To conduct public spirited research into, compile statistics and distribute material concerning all aspects of sexual violence specifically with a view to dissemination of research findings to the public.
- To liaise with community agencies and other feminist organizations, hosptials and police departments; to provide services in French and English, to all women throughout Stormont, Dundas, Glengarry and Akwesasne; to recruit members who will reflect the diversity of our region, and enlist the help of volunteers who will be trained to assist, support and accompany survivors of sexual violence in dealing with hospitals, police departments, courts, family members and the community at large
