The CVRD was established in February 2008, following the restructure of the Comox Strathcona Regional District into two: Comox Valley Regional District and the Strathcona Regional District. The boundaries of the Comox Strathcona Regional Hospital District (CSRHD) are the same as those two combined regional districts and have the same board of directors as the CVRD and SRD combined. 🗞️CVRD News: The Comox Valley Regional District has lifted the remaining water quality advisory for the Comox Harbour foreshore following the May 26 sewer leak from the Comox Pump Station.

Recent water samples collected within the foreshore area on August 24 tested for Enterococcus bacteria at levels ranging from less than 1.0 to 9.0 CFU/100 mL — well below Island Health’s guidance for swimming and other marine recreational activities. Island Health advises that water is suitable for these activities when the average Enterococcus result is below 35 CFU/100 mL, and no individual test result exceeds 70 CFU/100 mL. Sediment sampling and testing throughout June and July showed that the sediment poses no residual risk to recreational activities.

With the advisory lifted, all marine recreational activities may now safely resume in the previously affected foreshore area.

This past weekend, the CVRD was proud to participate in the Comox Valley Pride Parade, hosted by the Q***r Centre Comox Valley. For the second year in a row, our team joined the celebration as a walking group, standing alongside community members in support of diversity, equity, inclusion, and the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

At the CVRD, we know that being an ally is more than a one-time act; it's an ongoing commitment to learning, listening, respecting, and creating spaces where everyone feels welcome and valued.

We're committed to fostering a workplace that reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. Through inclusive hiring practices, ongoing learning opportunities, and building a culture where people can bring their authentic selves to work every day.

CVRD News: The Comox Valley Aquatic Centre reopens on Tuesday, September 8, with the fall recreation schedule in effect.

The facility was closed over the summer for major infrastructure upgrades and annual maintenance. The work focused on improving energy efficiency, indoor comfort, service accessibility, and the long-term reliability of the building.

Upgrades included replacing the aging heating and ventilation systems, installing new acoustic panels and baffles to reduce echo in the pool area, replacing the roof and skylights, refurbishing the waterslide, and completing extensive maintenance on the pools, water systems, and building infrastructure.

🚧 Update: Comox Road closure continues tonight 🚧

A portion of Comox Road by the 17th Street Bridge (see map) will be closed to all traffic again tonight:

📅 Wednesday, August 26
🕗 8 pm to 6 am
(10-hour overnight closure)

The closure is required to install a new sewer line as part of the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project. Work could not be completed last night due to site conditions, so another overnight closure is needed.

Detours will be in place. Please follow all signs and directions from traffic personnel.

🚧REMINDER: COMOX ROAD CLOSURE TONIGHT🚧

A portion of Comox Road (see map) will be closed to all traffic tonight, August 25, from 8 pm until 6 am (10-hour closure).

The road closure is required to install a new sewer line from the old Courtenay pump station to the new pump station as part of the Comox Valley Sewer Conveyance Project.

Detours will be in place as part of the traffic management plan while this work is underway. Please obey all signage and traffic personnel during this time.
