Comox Valley Schools would like to thank our students, staff and families for their cooperation and support today in helping reduce water use during the no flush order issued earlier by the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) impacting the City of Courtenay and Town of Comox today.

The CVRD has advised that repairs to the sewer leak near the Comox Marina have been successfully completed and the leak has been stopped. At this time, it is safe to resume normal use of toilets, dishwashers, laundry and other household water-related activities.

All schools are scheduled to open as usual tomorrow.

We appreciate the collective efforts of our school communities in supporting the CVRD and regional partners as they responded to this situation.

More information about the CVRD’s ongoing environmental response and follow-up work is available here: https://www.comoxvalleyrd.ca/connect/public-notices/2026-05-sewage-leak-repaired

Comox Valley Schools is advising families and staff that the City of Courtenay and Town of Comox have enacted a 'No Flush Order' effective immediately due to the ongoing wastewater infrastructure issue affecting those communities.

At this time, the Comox Valley Regional District and the Village of Cumberland are exempt from the order.

Schools in Courtenay and Comox are being asked to significantly reduce water use throughout the day. This includes minimizing toilet flushing, hand washing and other water use that drains into the wastewater system.

To support this effort, schools and child care spaces will be designating specific washrooms for use and limiting access to others where possible. Staff and students are asked to use washrooms only when necessary and to help conserve water wherever possible. All rentals (internal & external) for this evening will be cancelled.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding as local governments work to address the situation. We will continue to monitor updates from municipal and regional partners and will provide additional information as needed.

Please see this bulletin from the CVRD about this issue: Do Not Flush Required | Comox Valley Regional District

A Grade 12 student at G.P. Vanier Secondary is showing how student leadership can make a real impact in the community. ❤️🩸

As part of her Capstone Project, Jolina Healey organized a school-wide blood drive in partnership with Canadian Blood Services, bringing together students, staff and local businesses around a cause that helps save lives across Canada.

Driven by a personal commitment to community health, Jolina led an awareness campaign at the school, encouraged students and staff to join the Vanier Partners for Life team, and organized a community-supported raffle to help inspire participation.

Her efforts required months of initiative, organization and persistence! The results have already made a difference, with the Vanier team reaching approximately 90 per cent of its annual donation goal.

A huge thank you to the local businesses that generously supported the initiative:
• Big Foot Donuts
• Pharmasave Courtenay
• Hot Chocolates
• West Coast Karma
• The Old Farm Market

Their support helped make the event a success and highlighted the incredible community spirit that exists throughout the Comox Valley.

Aspen Park Elementary School recently hosted a fantastic Numeracy Night event! It was wonderful to see so many students and families come together to celebrate math in a hands-on, engaging, and playful ways.

Families participated in a wide variety of activities designed to build confidence, encourage problem-solving, and highlight that math is all around us in our everyday lives.

From interactive games and number challenges to puzzles and estimation activities, students had many opportunities to explore, think creatively, and experience the joy of math alongside their families.

The Estimation Station was especially popular, sparking lots of excitement and thoughtful guesses throughout the evening. The prize store was also a huge hit with students, who were eager to use their Aspen Park Dollars and choose a special item to take home.

Thank you to all of the families who joined and helped make the evening such a wonderful success. We loved seeing everyone learning, laughing, and exploring math together, and we look forward to Aspen Park's exciting Numeracy Night next year!
