This program:

* Is grounded in ceremony, led by Indigenous facilitators, with counselling support
Offering land-based self-exploration to support you in finding your unique path in this space
* Includes hands-on experience through volunteer placements with local environmental initiatives
* Connects you with like-minded peers and experienced mentors

Interested in joining? Fill out the form via the link in bio to add your name to our list, we'll reach out as the program takes shape and opportunities open up. Looking forward to growing this community with you 🌿

You're Invited to Wachiay Friendship Centre 2026 AGM

Join us Tuesday, September 15, 5 - 8 p.m. in the Cedar Room, for our biggest gathering of the year. This is a chance to reflect on where we've been and look ahead to what's next for the Centre. πŸ€πŸ–€πŸ’›β€οΈ

At this year's AGM, we will:
βœ… Share the annual recap including programs, operations, finance, and advocacy work and audited financial statements;
βœ… Elect the Board of Directors (providing quorum is met); and
βœ… Introduce our draft inaugural five-year Strategic Plan, guided by seven pillars rooted in Indigenous teachings.

We're bringing some of our Back to School activities into the AGM day too.

Enjoy:

β€’ Supervised kids zone
β€’ Thrift corner
β€’ Grocery corner

Get ready for back to school and pick what you need to thrive. Program tables will also be available so you can learn more about our offerings and how we can support you through the rest of 2026 and into 2027. Meet our team and learn more about each program.

Open to members, and the wider community.

Thinking about becoming a member? This is a great time to join or renew your membership.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

We are grateful to have hosted a protocol sharing circle on Tuesday night on Naming Ceremonies.πŸƒ

After sharing dinner and getting to know each other, Daryl Mills brought storytelling from his culture and lived experience into an intentional circle in ceremony. Thank you to everyone who attended and for your thoughtful questions.

We learned how important it is to inquire within, about our roots, our gifts to the world, and how connecting in community, with ourselves and others gives space for our purpose to flourish and rise to the surface. The invitation is to stay connected, to come together in circle as often as we can, to learn from elders and community wisdom, and to stay curious.

Wachiay Friendship Centre is a space where everybody is welcome, whether you're wanting to reconnect with your roots and community, have questions, or desire to build community. Join us in our upcoming circles and programs. We are here to serve and to share together. β€πŸ“£πŸ€πŸŒΏπŸƒπŸ‡

Wachiay Friendship Centre is honoured to be part of the collaborative effort in bringing this year's International Overdose Awareness Day event to our community. πŸ“£πŸ’œ

We invite everyone to join us on Aug. 27 at the CVAG Plaza to honour, learn, and stand together in solidarity, for a cause that impacts so many families across the Comox Valley. By showing up in support, we create a space for our community to grieve, heal, and work toward prevention.

We are a proud supporting partner, standing alongside The Village Clinic, Moms Stop The Harm, Stepping Stones, Care-A-Van, and Comox Valley Recovery Centre. We remain deeply committed to this cause, and to ending the stigma that keeps people from reaching out for help.

Yesterday our team gathered at qapoje Park for our monthly staff meeting. The park's name means "spring salmon in a creek flowing south", the traditional term for the creek that flows through this newly restored estuary.

We were welcomed onto the land by K'Γ³moks Guardian Watchmen, Krissy Brown and Caelan, who shared its history, stories, and the cultural significance of this restoration project. From there, we came together for team activities, rock painting, a delicious buffet catered by Pauline from Bannock Panic, and a walking tour along the shoreline.

Being at qapoje gave us space to reflect on the importance of land recovery, and on taking a more holistic approach to the areas that sustain our local ecosystem.

We're so grateful to our staff, our awesome coordinator for this event Amelia and to KFN for coming together to create this meaningful team-building experience.🀝🌟
