Most of us have experience using a hose to water a garden or to wash a car but a charged hose used by firefighters is more like wrestling a living…uncooperative…water-powered…force.
A typical attack line can push out more than 150 gallons of water every minute. That's enough water to fill a bathtub in seconds, while the hose is constantly pushing back against the firefighter.
Now imagine trying to do that while wearing 60+ pounds of gear…and working in extreme heat and smoke…while holding back the force of a hose that never stops pushing. Controlling a charged line requires training, technique, and teamwork. This is why we train and this is what that training looks like.
Take care of one another. We will be there if you need us.
