Many times since 2017, Wesly Graham for Cranbrook City Council and I have arrived on very different sides of an issue. However, for each issue brought to the table, we individually do our own research and talk to community members. Then, we will openly listen to one another’s perspectives and opinions, based on our life experiences and the demographics we each represent. We share examples, community members stories and more.

By discussing the issue with one another, we better understand why each of us feel differently on a topic. Every issue comes down to the differing needs of the different people we represent.

While Wes and I don’t always agree, we often appreciate the discussion! And there’s one thing we always agree on. Every community member deserves a council made of public servants that are willing to be positive and collaborative.

I’m not the only Councillor that picks Wes’s brain. He’s been in politics for 20+ years, and there is value in that.

Please take the time to see what he has to say, and don’t forget to vote Saturday October 15th.

I have seen immense growth and change in Cranbrook since I was elected five years ago, a lot of this was positive, and some of it wasn’t. I will say, that our City staff has accomplished so much, they worked incredibly hard to attain the goals that the senior staff, Mayor and Council set throughout our last term. We have a strong workforce and incredible leadership within The City, that is dedicated to making Cranbrook better. I am optimistic about our future, and I want to be a part of that journey.

I am mindful of the areas of collective concern within our community. Throughout Cranbrook, drug poisoning deaths are increasing, crime is on the rise, and we have a larger vulnerable population living rough. Additionally, Cranbrook doesn’t have adequate supportive housing for our vulnerable population. As a community and as a local government we must come together to tackle these issues. Providing food and safe supportive housing is the first step. Only when these needs are met, and there is access to comprehensive, evidence-based treatment services, can mental health and addiction be treated.

I have carved a niche on Council as someone who asks solid questions and consults with experts before sharing my perspective. I do this because I want to make sure every decision we make, every vote cast, is informed and balanced. As a member of City Council, I am continuously inspired by the potential to contribute to meaningful and impactful projects.

My goals with City Council are to build mutually respectful relationships with community members; positively contribute to an inclusive work environment; and balance the need for growth and consistency in all sectors of community development, safety, and Governance. I work hard to be the best City Councillor that I can be, and I promise to continue to do that if re-elected.

Please, vote for Mike on October 15th.

Today is the first day to be able to vote for your new City Council. No matter who your number one pick may be, I would appreciate your support with an X beside my name too. There are only seven candidates this year, and you are able to select up to six of those seven. We have a great group of people putting their name forward, and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with them.

I pride myself on being prepared for every Council meeting. I gather as much information as I can to make an informed decision that I can stand behind. Our meeting agendas can be well over 200 pages of material, and Councillors have five days between receiving the material and the meeting. I have done this every two weeks for the last five years, and I want to keep doing it. It is stimulating work and it is intrinsically rewarding.
My friends and family ask me if it’s hard to balance City Council with being a dad, having a career, being in a relationship, etc. The answer is yes. Finding the balance was something that took me two years to figure out. When I was first elected, I prioritized Council over my career and my family, and both of those suffered. I learned that your plate is only so full. If you push something on, you are going to push something off.
In the beginning of my term, I frequently left work to do ribbon cuttings, delicious Chamber Lunches, and every committee meeting that I was invited to. That resulted in my employees starting to resent my absence from the shop and it affected workplace moral. When I started to focus solely on work and council, I started to put on weight because I pushed off exercising.
Eventually, through trial and error, you learn the size of your plate and what fits where. My kids and my partner come first, then my business, then me (because I’m important too), and after that comes City Council. City Council is not the last item on my list, there are many things that I sacrifice to serve The City. What I am saying, if you want to be happy and healthy and to keep the people you care about happy and healthy; you must know where your priorities lay.

When I started working as a City Councillor five years ago, Lynnette was one of the first people to reach out to me and bring forward ideas to improve processes within The City. I truly feel that Lynnette will be an asset to Cranbrook if elected. Please vote for Lynnette (and me) on October 15th.

I bring a non-partisan, professional, proactive, and pragmatic approach to Cranbrook City Council. Through excellent governance and respectful collaboration, we can build on our strengths, take on our community's challenges, and embrace new opportunities.

Wow, those four years went by fast didn't they? These signs are being washed and delivered starting this weekend. If you would like to support my campaign with a sign on your lawn, please send me a private message with your address. You have no idea how much something as simple as a sign in front of your home helps out a guy like me.

See you in four years signs. Thank you everybody that voted. I am really happy to be working for you again.

Thank you Cranbrook Townsman for the write up. I am looking forward to the election on October 15th.
