Just a friendly reminder, !

All City offices will be closed on Monday, September 7 for Labour Day. We’ll be back to regular hours on Tuesday, September 8.

And don’t forget — school’s back in session! That means lots of little feet crossing the streets and bright backpacks in the crosswalks. Please slow down in school zones and help us keep our kids safe.

Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services has wrapped up two days of hands-on auto extrication training this week focused on the unique challenges of responding to incidents involving school buses.

Over the two-day session, Randy Schmitz of JRS Safety Services Ltd. led Fire & Emergency Services members through scenario-based training, with a focus on the different construction and access challenges school buses can present during an emergency response.

The training was made possible thanks to School District No. 5 and School District No. 6, which each donated a retired school bus to support this exercise. The buses had reached the end of their service life, creating a valuable opportunity for firefighters to practice important rescue techniques in realistic conditions.

Cranbrook Fire & Emergency Services thanks Public Works, School District No. 5, School District No. 6, Van Horne Towing, and Farbrook Auto Wrecking for helping to make this training possible. Van Horne Towing helped set up the training scenes with their tow trucks, with Morgan also taking part in the scenarios, while Farbrook Auto Wrecking supplied two minivans. It is an excellent example of community partners working together to support vital public safety and emergency preparedness. Draining your pool or hot tub this fall? A quick reminder to do it safely.

Please keep pool and hot tub water out of the sanitary sewer. Storm sewers are different, but the water needs to be properly treated first because those drains lead to local streams.

The best option is to treat the water, reduce as much chlorine or other chemicals as you can, and drain it slowly onto your property so it can soak into the ground. Just make sure it does not run onto neighbouring properties, streets, lanes, or alleys.

Have a saltwater pool? That water cannot go into the storm sewer and needs to be hauled away by a licensed hauler. If you are not sure what is okay, please check with the City before draining.

That's a wrap on this year's water conservation campaign!

Since Stage 2 water restrictions were implemented in early August, Cranbrook’s positive water usage trend has continued. Daily water use has remained at or below the 5-year average on most days, showing the impact of small actions across our community.

Neighbours living around the construction zone of the Dr. F.W. Green Memorial Home replacement project will begin to see structural steel deliveries starting on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, with installation continuing through December 15, 2026. Offsite infrastructure works and temporary road closures, which began around July 22, 2026, have been extended to October 12, 2026.

To safely accommodate crane operations and steel installation, a temporary lane closure will be in effect along portions of 18th Avenue South during this period.

The offsite works, originally scheduled from July 22 to September 1, 2026, have been extended to October 12, 2026, due to unforeseen circumstances encountered during construction. Residents and the public may continue to experience temporary road closures and traffic disruptions in the surrounding area.

Noise generating work, like machinery operation, will only take place during permitted work hours and will follow all local bylaws.

Residents whose property fronts directly onto the work site, the contractor will reach out directly and can answer any questions.
