Elections Nova Scotia Elections Nova Scotia is the independent, non-partisan agency responsible for conducting provincial elections

Elections Nova Scotia must be prepared at all times to conduct a provincial general election, by-election, or plebiscite. It is responsible for ensuring compliance with and enforcing provincial electoral law including the political financing regime. Elections Nova Scotia is responsible for the establishment and maintenance of election-related data, including the Nova Scotia Register of Electors and may carry out studies related to the electoral process in the pursuit of its mandate. Election Readiness Update – October 2026

Elections Nova Scotia (ENS) has released the update on election readiness preparations for the 43rd Provincial General Election (PGE).

Without a fixed-date election cycle, ENS must continually prepare to be election ready when called upon. To achieve this, we rely on a planning cycle with key election readiness gates in April and September of each year. To enhance transparency and keep Nova Scotians informed of our election readiness plans, we publish updates throughout our readiness cycle.

As ENS works through the election readiness cycle for the 43rd PGE, we will continue to provide updates on our progress at key readiness gates. Careful election readiness planning ensures ENS is prepared to successfully deliver the free, fair, and accessible election that Nova Scotians expect and deserve whenever it is called.

The October 2026 Election Readiness Update is posted on the Elections Nova Scotia website at electionsnovascotia.ca.

Chéticamp-Margarees-Pleasant Bay By-election Report

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Nova Scotia, Dorothy Rice, has released the report on the proceedings of the Chéticamp-Margarees-Pleasant Bay by-election held on June 23, 2026. The report was submitted to the House of Assembly in accordance with Section 163 of the Elections Act. The report provides a summary of the by-election results and detailed statistics on the vote.

Financial information on election expenses, candidate reimbursement, election administration costs and financial statistics, will be released at a later date.

The Chéticamp-Margarees-Pleasant Bay by-election report is posted in both English and French on the Elections Nova Scotia website at electionsnovascotia.ca.
