Flood Watch Update: 6:30PM Update May 7, 2026.

Thursday, May 7, 2026, 9:45 p.m.
The water level on the Yukon River at Dawson has fallen 1.7m since peaking at 5:30 p.m. on May 7. Water levels will continue to drop overnight but are expected to stabilize tomorrow.

This is an update from the Dawson Emergency Control Group, which includes the City of Dawson, Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in and Government of Yukon response agencies.

The Lower Yukon River remains under a Flood Watch. The ice jam has released, and water levels are currently dropping. Crews are monitoring the situation, and you are currently not being asked to evacuate.

Be prepared to leave on short notice. Residents are advised to move to higher ground if necessary. Ensure your emergency kit is ready (yukon.ca/fr/situations-durgence-et-securite/preparation-aux-urgences/trousse-durgence)

If water levels overtop the d**e and flood town, an Alert Ready notification and community sirens will be activated.

If you need immediate assistance, call 9-1-1.

Water levels have risen on the Yukon River, and vehicles are at risk of being affected by the Yukon River.

As a precaution, material or equipment may be placed shortly around the ferry landing where it connects with the lower road, which may further impact the possibility of moving these items. It is in your best interest to move/secure these items as soon as possible.

This is an update from the Dawson Emergency Control Group including City of Dawson, Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in and Government of Yukon response agencies.
• The Klondike River is now under a Flood Warning. This means river levels have exceeded or will exceed banks very soon. Several ice jams Henderson Corner are causing flooding. The ice jams could move and affect places downstream. Crews are on site responding.
• An Evacuation Alert is in place for Klondike Valley from Henderson Corner through Rock Creek to the TH Farm, including all residences on both sides of the highway, and the airport long-term parking lot. If you are in this area, be prepared to leave on short notice.
• Power has been temporarily disconnected for some customers in the Henderson Corner area o ensure safety. If you see a downed power line, stay back and call Yukon Energy immediately (1-800-676-2843).
• Sand and sandbags are available at C4, the Mammoth Statue on Front St., and Klondike Valley Fire Department. Please help yourself or sandbags for your neighbours.
• If you need assistance, call 9-1-1.

May 3rd, 2026, update from Yukon Protective Services.
-Flood Watch for the Klondike River (upgraded on May 3, 2026)
Current Conditions:
-The Klondike River is open from Rock Creek to the mouth.
-Several ice jams and ice sheets remain from Henderson Corner upstream. There is currently an ice jam at the upper end of Henderson a causing backwater flooding.

Water Level Forecast:
-The potential exists for the current jam to move lower at Henderson and affect additional properties.
-When the Henderson ice releases, it is unlikely to re-form below Rock Creek and is expected to run to the Yukon River.
-A temporary rise in water levels will accompany the ice run but is unlikely to cause flooding.

Safety:
-Stay off the ice!
-Stay clear of fast-flowing rivers and potentially unstable riverbanks.
-Flood-prone property owners should have a flood plan in place in the event of a flood.

If you need sandbags to protect your property from possible rising water levels, there are sandbag stations set up next to the mammoth statue on Front Street and at C4.
More sand and supplies will be delivered at these locations throughout the week.
