🚲 A New Addition to Rotary Recreation Park! 🌲

Last week, Mayor Dober attended the grand opening of the new pump track at Rotary Recreation Park: a fantastic new space operated and maintained by the dedicated team at the Mile 0 Park Society.

The Mile 0 Park Society plays an important role in preserving and enhancing some of Dawson Creek’s most treasured community spaces, including the Mile 0 Campground and the Walter Wright Pioneer Village. The society pours their heart and soul into this cornerstone of our community’s history and tourism experience, making these spaces welcoming for residents and visitors alike.

If you haven’t checked it out yet, make a weekend of it! Take a stroll through the Walter Wright Pioneer Village, explore a piece of Dawson Creek’s history, then stop by Rotary Recreation Park to enjoy the new pump track and playground.

A big thank you to the Mile 0 Park Society for their ongoing commitment to creating spaces where our community can connect, play, and make memories.

On May 11, Council was honoured to be joined by Leosette Canoy Hansen, Adrian Bartolome, and Wennali Eden May Canoy, residents of Dawson Creek, for a presentation recognizing their receipt of Decorations for Bravery.

This recognition follows a serious incident on Bear Mountain near Dawson Creek, where their courageous actions in a critical and dangerous situation helped protect and support others in the face of immediate risk.

We extend our deepest respect for their strength, composure, and selflessness during a profoundly difficult event, and we are proud to formally recognize their bravery on behalf of the community.

Champions in our midst! 🏆🏒

Council was proud to welcome Jeff Taylor, General Manager, and Marcel Capelle, Coach of the Dawson Creek Senior Canucks, for an exciting update on the team’s Men’s Provincial Hockey Championship win and the presentation of the Coy Cup.

Bringing home a provincial championship is an incredible accomplishment — one that reflects the hard work, dedication, and teamwork of the players, coaches, staff, and supporters who stood behind the team every step of the way.

Congratulations to the Dawson Creek Senior Canucks on an unforgettable season and for making our community proud. Thank you for bringing the Coy Cup home to Dawson Creek!

Council was joined by Fred Feddema and Lori Knutson of the South Peace Hospice Palliative Care Society for the presentation of a proclamation recognizing an important community initiative at the May 11, 2026 Council Meeting.

We are proud to declare May 2026 as Hospice Palliative Care Month in Dawson Creek, acknowledging the essential role hospice palliative care plays in supporting individuals and families facing life-limiting illness, grief, and end-of-life care.

This proclamation recognizes the compassion, dignity, and support provided through hospice palliative services in our community, as well as the dedicated volunteers, staff, and healthcare professionals who make this work possible. Thank you to the South Peace Hospice Palliative Care Society for your continued commitment to caring for residents and families across Dawson Creek and the South Peace region.

📣May 14, 2026 Proclaimed as Apraxia Awareness Day

Mercia Whitman, a parent volunteer of Apraxia Kids, was in attendance at the March 30, 2026 Council Meeting to proclaim May 14, 2026 as Apraxia Awareness Day in Dawson Creek.

Childhood apraxia of speech is a severe speech disorder affecting approximately one in every 1,000 children, with one third having a genetic cause. Increasing public awareness of childhood apraxia of speech is essential to ensure that families and professionals can access the services and supports needed to help children develop their voices.
