Last night, Laurentian Hills Fire Department crews responded to a hydro line down at the east end boundary of the municipality, just off Highway 17. The downed line had ignited a small grass fire in the area.
Due to the location of the incident, Petawawa Fire Department and Garrison Petawawa Fire Department also responded. Firefighters from all three departments worked together alongside hydro crews to quickly and safely mitigate the emergency and prevent further fire spread.
We would like to thank our neighbouring departments for their assistance and continued cooperation. Incidents such as these highlight the importance of strong mutual aid partnerships and teamwork between emergency services.
This call also serves as an important reminder to motorists. When approaching emergency vehicles stopped on the roadway or shoulder, please slow down, move over when safe to do so, and remain alert. Emergency responders, hydro workers, and tow operators deserve a safe work environment while protecting our communities.
Thank you to everyone who exercised caution and gave crews the space they needed to work safely.
