Just before 5 pm today DDVFD was called out to a field fire northwest of Delisle. Thanks to the quick actions of some local farmers, and their generous supply of water and a large tractor with a discer attached, the fire was quickly controlled. damage was mostly limited to a field that had already been harvested, though a nearly-ripe wheat crop was close by. Given the windy conditions today this situation could have been much worse! Our crews were mopping up and preparing to return to the hall by 6:30 pm.

Training tonight: setting up traffic control at accident scenes. Fun fact: standing on a roadway “controlling” traffic is among the most dangerous of the duties we perform! If you’ve see us setting up “scenes” around town tonight, please know that this is just a training exercise.

Did yoiu know today is Volunteer Firefighters Recognition Day?

It is observed annually on August 18 to honor the selflessness, courage, and vital public safety contributions of volunteer firefighters. Originally proclaimed in 1984 by President Ronald Reagan, the day recognizes individuals who balance regular daily lives while remaining on call to protect their communities

Its an American thing, but this is a Band Wagon we can jump on.

A complete fire ban for the RM of Vanscoy will be implemented on Thursday August 13th at midnight, so starting Friday at 00:00 hours. This does not include the Town of Delisle or the village of Vanscoy, nor does it include the Provincial Park. If you have any questions please reach out to the RM office.

At 2155 hours last night the DDVFD was called out for mutual aid to assist our brothers and sisters with the Montrose Volunteer Fire Department at the scene of a collision involving a motorcycle on Highway 7, about 9 kilometres west of Delisle. The highway was closed as a result, and will likely remain closed for several more hours. A detour has been set up, but if possible please avoid the area while firefighters and police are still on scene.

DDVFD was called out to a single vehicle rollover on Highway 7 just west of Vanscoy at 1020 hrs today. Traffic on the westbound lanes of the highway was diverted, and the highway was closed for a short time while STARS Ambulance landed and took off. One patient was transported to hospital. Our members were clear of scene and all apparatus back in service by 1200 hrs.
