Students in Grades 7 - 12 - enter our Two-Sentence Horror Story Contest!

George Mackie Library - Two-Sentence Horror Story Contest
October 1 – 31

Can you tell a spooky story in just two sentences? Students in Grades 7 - 12 are invited to submit an original two-sentence horror story for a chance to win a prize basket. Submit entries at the George Mackie Library customer service desk or email [email protected]

Selected entries will be displayed in the library until November 15.

Prize is a gift basket. Estimated prize value is $30-50. Contest runs Oct. 1 - 31, 2026. Open to students in Grades 7 - 12, except FVRL staff. Chances of winning depends on the number of entries received. Winner will be selected based on creativity and how spooky their story is by November 6, 2026. Winner will be notified by phone or email and can collect their prize at George Mackie Library. Winners forfeit unclaimed prizes after 14 days from notification. No purchase necessary. You are providing your information to Fraser Valley Regional Library and it will only be used for contacting the winners.

BAT EDUCATION PROGRAM

1:30 - 2:30 pm

Let’s show a little library love to an unsung hero – the bat! Presented by Danielle Dagenais, children will learn about bats, their habitats, and ways to support our local bat population. We encourage children in Grades 3 to 7 and their families to attend. Children under 10 must have an adult accompany them. Space is limited.

Danielle Dagenais has been working and volunteering on bat projects in BC since 2011. Every year, Danielle organizes and leads bat presentations, bat walks, and partners with others to do bat box building workshops in the area.

Most of us willingly offer nurture and care to other people. But how skilled are you at nurturing yourself? We cannot pour from an empty cup, so it's essential that we prioritize our own self-care and replenish our energy so we don't burn out.

In this gentle session, come learn why it's not selfish to nurture yourself first. You'll leave with practical strategies for improved rhythm, rest, sustainable creative practices and a stronger sense of your core identity.

This drop-in workshop is suitable for adults and teens ages 16+.

Knit 'N Stitch
Sundays, 2:00 - 4:00 pm

Pack up your needles and yarn and head to the library! Knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidery and weaving are fun ways to connect across the generations. Join members of all ages and abilities to share ideas and good conversation.

Halloween Costume Swap - Oct. 10 - 2:00-4:00pm

Do you have unused or gently used Halloween costumes you’d like to swap or donate? Bring them to the library and SWAP with other families! Any costumes left over at the end of the day, will be donated.
