Hands-On Learning in Action!

These Grade 3 and 4 students teamed up for a special hands-on project: making custom playdough for all three of our Kindergarten classrooms!

They did an amazing job taking charge of the recipe - measuring ingredients, stirring, cooking, and adding vibrant colours. Not only was it a fun real-world math and science lesson for our older students, but our Kinders are going to love using their fresh playdough for sensory play and fine motor fun!

Way to go, team!

Grade 1 Sounds of Success!
Our Grade 1 readers are exploring new sounds and unlocking the magic of reading every day!
To help build their confidence, Mrs Gerhardt’s classroom has a special basket of "reading buddies"- stuffed animals that are always ready for storytime. Reading aloud to a fuzzy friend gives our students a comfortable, judgment-free space to practice sounding out words and celebrate their progress.
There's nothing sweeter than hearing the classroom filled with confident little voices reading to their favourite plush pals!

Mrs. Spence brings stories to life and helps our students discover new adventures, grow their love of reading, and find a little bit of magic in every book. Thank you for making our library such a special place to learn, explore, and imagine. Some fun facts about Mrs. Spence: She loves BOOKS (of course), hiking, music, coffee and going to the theatre! We are so lucky to have her as part of our RBES family! 🦖📖

💪 Big Muscles, Big Curiosity! 🛞✨
In our Early Intervention Pre-Kindergarten (EIPK) classroom, learning means getting active! This year, we’re focusing on gross motor development—a division-wide goal that’s keeping our littlest learners moving in all kinds of fun and challenging ways.
Check out our kiddos putting their strength to the test outside by pushing these heavy tires! 🚜Activities like this help build core strength, balance, coordination, and teamwork—all while sparking big curiosity through play.

🤝 Partnering for Success! 💻✨

Big thanks to our amazing Grade 4 buddies for lending a helping hand to our Grade 1s!

Navigating tech for the first time can be tricky, but our Grade 4 mentors stepped right up to guide their younger buddies through logging into their Chromebooks and exploring Google Classroom.

Seeing our older students step into leadership roles—and our Grade 1s gain confidence with technology—is what buddy learning is all about! ❤️

🍂 Happy Thanksgiving from Robina Baker! 🍂

To get into the thankful spirit, Mrs. Milson’s Grade 3B class recently read The Grateful Book by Angela Kohler. Inspired by the story, the students reflected on what brings joy to their lives and created their very own classroom version of the book! 📖✨

Using the author’s sentence structure, each student shared a meaningful piece of what they are grateful for this season.

We hope your Thanksgiving weekend is filled with love, warmth, and your own reasons to be grateful!

Feature Friday: Meet Grandma Mullen! 📖

When Grandma Mullen walks into Robina Baker Elementary, the halls light up! As one of our first Grandma Reader volunteers, she dedicates a few hours each week to one-on-one reading sessions with our students.

For her, it’s about much more than just practising words: "Reading helps to start the trust and makes them feel safe, then the relationship grows." ❤️ (Plus, she’s become a total expert on pronouncing Pokémon character names!)

You could be a Grandma Reader, too! Don't let the name fool you-you don't actually have to be a grandmother! We are welcoming grandfathers, aunts, uncles, and neighbours who want to make a difference in a child's life.

"Education is tasty!"
This week, our Kindergarten classrooms were filled with the cozy smell of warm apples and cinnamon!

Our Kindergarten Apple Crumble activity was so much more than a treat—it was early math and literacy in action! Students practised counting ingredients, measuring portions, listening carefully to directions, and even stepping out of their comfort zones to taste something new.

To round out our fall theme, we also created fizzy Apple Volcanoes for a little hands-on science! 🌋🍏

We love making learning an unforgettable (and delicious!) experience. ❤️

And just like that, the school year is officially a wrap!

From the first day of school to this very last bell, we are incredibly proud of all the learning, growth, and amazing memories our students made this year.
