What happened this weekend is heartbreaking. No family should ever face hate for who they are or how they worship, and no child should have to witness their mother targeted like this. Islamophobia has no place in our province, full stop.
Solidarity means showing up when it counts. That’s why we are amplifying the voices of the Moncton Muslim Association, listening to Muslim voices in our community, and backing a full, fair investigation into what happened. It also means the work doesn’t stop once the headlines fade. Building a safer, more respectful New Brunswick for everyone is an everyday commitment, not just a reaction to one incident.
Statement from the Moncton Muslim Association
The Moncton Muslim Association is deeply saddened and profoundly concerned by the reported incident involving a Muslim family during the car show held in Moncton last Sunday.
We have been contacted by the husband of the victim, who shared details of the incident with us. According to the information provided, his wife was allegedly assaulted in the presence of their seven-year-old child after the family was subjected to hateful and racist remarks.
No person should ever be targeted because of their faith, ethnicity, or background, and no child should have to witness such a traumatic experience.
The Moncton Muslim Association unequivocally condemns all forms of hatred, racism, discrimination, violence, and Islamophobia. Such acts have no place in Moncton, New Brunswick, or anywhere in Canada.
We welcome the fact that the matter has been reported to the appropriate authorities and call for a full, fair, and thorough investigation into all aspects of this incident, including any potential hate-motivated elements.
We stand in solidarity with the victim and her family, pray for her complete recovery, and reaffirm our commitment to working alongside community leaders, elected officials, law enforcement, and residents to build a community where every person can live in safety, dignity, and mutual respect.
Hatred and intolerance have no place in our community. Together, we must continue to promote understanding, compassion, and peaceful coexistence.
