Wow, Chief Tanya Stone’s story about the success of her Nation was truly inspiring. We were so moved by what she shared and the vision she brought to the room.

We also enjoyed the afternoon panel and activities, with so many meaningful conversations and ideas shared throughout the day.

We leave inspired and ready to begin the work together as one region, stronger together, and focused on building a prosperous future for Northwest Saskatchewan.

Buffalo River Dene Nation at the Northwest Economic Development Summit

Buffalo River Dene Nation is pleased to be in attendance at the 1st Northwest Economic Development Summit in Buffalo Narrows today.

We enjoyed this morning’s panel sessions, along with industry presentations from SaskPower and NWC Group of Companies.

The morning also featured a moderated discussion with industry, community and economic development leaders focused on partnerships, procurement, workforce development and regional growth, with Dylan Smart, Vice President of Regional Development with NexGen Energy, and Dale Huffman, President of Paladin Canada.

These conversations provide an opportunity to connect, share perspectives and explore opportunities for partnerships and economic growth across Northwest Saskatchewan.

This afternoon, we will hear from keynote speaker Chief Tanya Stone of Mosquito, Grizzly Bear’s Head, Lean Man First Nation, who will present “Building Economic Reconciliation Through Partnership, Procurement and Economic Growth.”

Buffalo River Dene Nation is pleased to introduce Diana, our new Trust Coordinator. 🌿

We know members have been waiting for this position to be filled, and we want to thank everyone for their patience during this transition.

Diana brings approximately 15 years of experience in accounting and finance, including working with financial records, documentation, and ensuring information is handled carefully and accurately.

In her new role, Diana looks forward to getting to know and supporting BRDN members, both here in the community and those living in urban areas.

Diana will be working remotely and is currently getting settled into her new role and learning BRDN's Trust processes. As she gets started, we ask members to give her some time to become familiar with the role.

Community Input Needed: Funeral Closure Guidelines

Chief and Council are asking BRDN members living in Buffalo River Dene Nation, St. George and Michel Village to take a few minutes to complete this short survey.

Traditionally, closing our offices has been a way of showing respect to grieving families and allowing employees to attend funerals. We absolutely recognize the importance of that respect. At the same time, we are finding that we need clearer and more consistent guidelines.

We are hearing concerns from parents about school closures and lost instructional time, as well as from members who need access to offices and services. Essential services such as the Health Clinic also cannot simply close, which creates inconsistencies between departments and additional costs when staff are entitled to time in lieu.

We need to find a balance between showing proper respect to grieving families and continuing to provide the services our community depends on.

Rather than making these decisions on a case by case basis, we want to establish clear guidelines so families, members, parents and employees know what to expect.

Before Chief and Council makes any decisions, we want to hear from you.

This service is available to all BRDN members and is not limited to Elders or members 65 and older.

💧 COMMUNITY WATER NOTICE

Good morning, Buffalo River Dene Nation.

The water treatment workers will be flushing the water system today. Community members may notice low water pressure and some water discolouration during the flushing.

This may continue into tomorrow as the work continues.
