☀️ Heat Warning in Effect

Hot and humid conditions are expected through September 2, with humidex values approaching 40.

Please take precautions, stay hydrated, limit time in the heat when possible, and check in on those who may be more vulnerable.

🚨Environment Canada is forecasting a heat event starting this afternoon and continuing into September 2nd. Daytime highs will be as high as 32 degrees Celsius, with humidex values near 40. Overnight low temperatures are expected to be near 23 degrees Celsius.

During a heat warning, residents should take precautions to protect themselves and the most vulnerable from heat related illness. Those most vulnerable to the effects of the heat include older adults, infants and young children, outdoor workers, and homeless persons who do not have shelter, proper clothing or food.

✅Anyone who experiences physical distress because of extreme temperatures should seek medical attention immediately, either by calling 911 or by going to the nearest emergency department.

✅Residents in Elgin County, Oxford County, and the City of St. Thomas are recommended to monitor the weather forecast to evaluate the risk of exposure to heat as conditions could change.

? 👉Southwestern Public Health issues heat warnings when Environment Canada forecasts temperatures that are expected to be at least 31°C and overnight temperatures are at or above 20°C for two days or the Humidex is forecasted to be at least 40°C for two days.

🚒 Welcome to Princeton Fire Station 81!

What a fantastic turnout for the Grand Opening of Princeton Fire Station 81!

Thank you to everyone who joined us on Saturday to celebrate this important milestone for the Township of Blandford-Blenheim. It was wonderful to welcome members of the community into the new station, officially cut the ribbon, and recognize the work that went into bringing this project to life.

Station 81 was designed with the future in mind, providing our firefighters with a modern facility that supports evolving equipment and training needs while helping ensure the health and safety of our firefighters and the community for generations to come.

A special thank you to MPP Ernie Hardeman and MP Arpan Khanna for joining us to mark the occasion, along with members of Township Council, our firefighters, staff, project partners, and everyone who helped make the new station possible.

Most importantly, thank you to the Princeton community and everyone who came out to celebrate with us!

📋 Council Meeting Agenda Highlights – September 2, 2026

Township of Blandford-Blenheim Council will meet on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. Residents can watch the meeting live on the Township's YouTube channel.

Some items on the agenda include:

🏡 Minor Variance Application – 104 Hilborn Crescent
Council, sitting as the Committee of Adjustment, will consider a minor variance application to permit a reduced exterior side yard for a proposed single detached dwelling.

🌱 Zone Change Application – Highview Estate Ltd.
Council will hold a public meeting regarding a proposed zoning amendment to rezone a portion of agricultural lands to a site-specific Rural Residential Zone. Staff are recommending approval in principle.

📊 Oxford County Planning Annual Report
Representatives from Oxford County will provide Council with an update on development planning, as well as water and wastewater services.

🌾 Rural Oxford Economic Development
Rural Oxford Economic Development will present a Year One update on its 2026-2030 Strategic Plan.

🗳️ 2026 Municipal Election Security
Council will receive a delegation from a resident regarding the security of the 2026 Municipal Election.

🛑 Four-Way Stop at Centre Street and Pinkham Street
Council will consider a recommendation to install a four-way stop at the intersection of Centre Street and Pinkham Street.

🏒 Plattsville Memorial Community Arena Improvements
Council will consider authorizing a grant application to support capital improvements at the Plattsville Memorial Community Arena through the Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund.

🚒 Fire Station 81 Funding and Regional Training
Council will consider endorsing an application to the Skills Development Fund to support the training infrastructure incorporated into the new Princeton Fire Station 81. The Township is also proposing to develop partnerships with neighbouring municipalities and training providers to expand the facility's regional training opportunities.

💰 Second Quarter Financial Update
Council will receive the Township's Second Quarter Variance Report, providing an update on the municipality's financial position compared with the 2026 budget.

📋 Financial Reporting Requirements
Council will consider a Notice of Motion proposing new reporting requirements for major capital projects and municipal service enhancements, including project close-out reports and lifecycle cost analysis.

There are many options for paying your bill, including online through your financial institution or by visiting the Township Administration Office at 47 Wilmot St. S. during office hours (8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday to Friday) with cash, cheque or debit (no credit option).

Beginning in October, Oxford County Paramedic Services will use a new system for 911 medical calls to ensure those with the most serious medical conditions continue to be seen first. Police and fire calls are not affected.

*What’s staying the same*

When you call 911 for a medical emergency, an emergency communications dispatcher will be there to take your call. Calls involving life-threatening emergencies, such as cardiac arrest, stroke symptoms, severe allergic reactions or unconsciousness, will continue to receive the highest priority response-- as they do now.

*What’s changing*

When you call 911 for a medical emergency, you may be asked a few more questions to help dispatchers understand how serious or severe your condition is. If your needs are less urgent (flu-like symptoms or sprains) and the demand for paramedic services is high, you may wait longer for an ambulance to arrive. You may also get a call back to check on your status during longer waits.

The new software system, Medical Priority Dispatch System (MPDS), supports faster response to life-threatening emergencies while improving the overall efficiency of emergency medical services. MPDS is used in thousands of dispatch centres around the world and is already being used in other Ontario communities.
