Tache Fire Department extends our condolences to Headingley Fire Department and the family, friends, and colleagues of Chief John Sparham. Our thoughts are with you during this difficult time.

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Fire Chief John Sparham.

Our department is grieving the loss of a respected leader, mentor, and friend who dedicated himself to serving our community through both our volunteer fire department and the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service.

We extend our deepest condolences to Chief Sparham’s family, friends, crews, and colleagues during this difficult time. We ask that you keep them, and our department members, in your thoughts as we mourn this tremendous loss.

Chief Sparham’s service and dedication will not be forgotten.

Information regarding memorial and funeral arrangements will be shared as it becomes available and with the family’s consent.

🚒 GET TO KNOW YOUR FIREFIGHTERS 🚒

We asked our members a few fun questions so the community could get to know the people behind the gear a little better

A few things we learned:

🔥 Search & rescue and structure fires are favourite calls to train for
🛠️ Jaws of Life was the top pick for favourite equipment
🍫 Chips, beef jerky, and chocolate almonds keep the hall fueled
🧼 Cleaning toilets and washing floors are easily the least favourite chores… shocking!

But one thing stood out the most:

The best part of being a firefighter is helping our community and the family atmosphere within the department

👨🏻‍🚒We also heard some great advice passed down through generations of firefighters:

“Never leave your partner”
“Treat others the way you want to be treated”
“Everyone gets home safe”
“Relax, trust your training”

When asked to describe their station in one word, the most common answer was simple:

“Family” ❤️

Last Wednesday, all three Tache Fire Stations came together for an evening of training. Firefighters sharpened their vehicle extrication skills to help ensure our crews remain prepared and ready to respond 🚒

Training together strengthens teamwork, builds experience, and helps ensure readiness for the busy season ahead 🔥

🔥 PREVENT GRASS FIRES BEFORE THEY START 🔥

Dry conditions and high winds can turn a small spark into a fast moving grass fire in minutes. Help protect our community from grass fires this season by adhering to local fire restrictions and following these guidelines:

⛺️ Never leave campfires unattended. Ensure fires are fully extinguished before leaving the area and only burn in approved receptacles.

🚜 Keep equipment maintained. Farm equipment, trailers, and ATVs can create sparks or ignite dry grass if not properly maintained.

🌾 Burn responsibly. Always monitor controlled burns closely and ensure you get a burn permit.

🏍️ Don’t drive on dry grass. Hot exhaust systems from vehicles and ATVs can easily ignite dried vegetation.

🚬 Dispose of ci******es safely. Never through cigarette butts onto the ground or out of vehicle windows.

One spark is all it takes to start a grass fire. Help keep our community safe! 🚒

Two weeks ago, our Level 2 firefighting class traveled to Brandon to train at the Manitoba Emergency Services College, putting their skills to the test in live fire scenarios.

Last weekend, they returned to complete their practical evaluation. Congratulations to our Level 2 class on successfully completing their evaluation! 🚒🔥
