NOTICE TO RESIDENTS – FLOOD PREVENTION REMINDER

Due to the significant amount of rainfall received in a short period of time, residents are urged to take the necessary precautions to help prevent flooding on their property and reduce strain on municipal infrastructure.

To help protect your home:
- Ensure your yard is properly graded so that water drains away from your foundation.
- Keep eavestroughs and downspouts clear and direct water away from your home.
- Install and maintain a sump pit and sump pump.
- Ensure sump pump discharge is directed outside onto your property and away from buildings.

IMPORTANT: Sump pumps must NOT be connected to the sanitary sewer system.

Discharging sump water into the sanitary sewer is illegal and can significantly overload the sewer system during heavy rainfall events. Excess groundwater entering the sewer system increases the risk of sewer backups, flooding, and service disruptions throughout the community.

Residents who have sump pumps connected to the sanitary sewer shall disconnect them immediately and redirect discharge outside in accordance with local regulations.

With additional rainfall in the forecast, it is important that any improper sump pump connections be remedied as soon as possible.

Your cooperation helps protect both your property and the community's sewer infrastructure during periods of heavy rainfall.
