Cowichan Family Caregivers Support Society

Cowichan Family Caregivers Support Society We are a community-based non-profit society dedicated to supporting family caregivers. A caregiving family includes the caregiver and the person receiving care.

The Cowichan Family Caregivers Support Society is dedicated to improving the quality of life of caregivers. A family caregiver is anyone who gives care and support to an adult family member or friend. Family caregivers are a large group of people – one in sixteen people in BC are caregivers, for example – who give service to their family and community. Often giving up their own activities and even

jobs to care for their loved one, many caregivers face economic challenges. And yet without them, healthcare costs would become unmanageable. It’s estimated that 80% of eldercare is provided by family and friends. Supporting caregivers is an essential element in our current system of health care delivery. Family caregivers need recognition, appreciation and support in order to continue offering their significant contribution to the quality of life of fragile people in our community.

Experience truly matters! 💙 This BC Seniors’ Week, we celebrate the incredible seniors we walk alongside every day and honor their invaluable stories and contributions to our community. 🍁

June 1–7 is BC Seniors’ Week!

This year’s theme is ‘Experience Matters’, recognizing the many contributions, perspectives and lived experiences of older adults across British Columbia.

Throughout the week, we’ll be celebrating seniors and inviting them to share their thoughts on ageing, community and connection.

Happy !

On behalf of our staff and board of directors, we want to sincerely thank the Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary Thrift Store for their incredibly generous donation! It was a genuine pleasure meeting with Laureen and Tara last week. We appreciated the opportunity to share more about our free support services, and the positive impact that community donations have on our caregiver programs and community initiatives. We’re truly grateful for the LHCA’s commitment to supporting Ladysmith caregivers and their families. Thank you for all you do!

On April 28, 2026, the Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary was honoured to present a donation of $12,500.00 to the Cowichan Family Caregivers Support Society.

During our visit, we had the opportunity to tour their welcoming space and learn more about the incredible support they provide to caregivers and families throughout our community. It was truly heartwarming to see firsthand the care, compassion, and safe space they offer to those navigating difficult journeys alongside their loved ones.

The Cowichan Family Caregivers Support Society provides free support services for local families caring for loved ones with a disability or life-limiting medical diagnosis. Their services include support groups, one-to-one emotional support, healthcare system navigation, connections to community resources, education, and caregiver wellness support.

We are grateful to help support the meaningful work they do in our region.

To learn more about their programs and services, please visit:

This donation was made possible through the generous support of our volunteers, donors, shoppers, and community members who continue to support the Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary Thrift Store. Together, we are helping care ripple outward through our communities. 💫

Margaret, 77, was feeling overwhelmed caring for her sister while dealing with an unexpected tax audit. She wasn’t sure where to turn.

Our Information & Referral team connected her with a health authority case manager for additional home support and with the city’s tax department for help completing her audit.

With the right supports in place, she was able to move forward with more confidence.

She shared she was “so glad the Seniors Advocate office gave me direction where to get help.”

Need help navigating services? We're here to connect older adults with the right supports.
