⛸️ Lace Up for Skating Lessons! ❄️

Ready to build confidence on the ice? Our Fuller Lake Arena skating lessons are a great way for skaters to learn new skills, improve their technique, and have fun on the ice!

⛸️ Lessons are offered 3 days a week:
✨ Sundays
✨ Tuesdays
✨ Saturdays

We offer both preschool and school aged lessons. Whether they’re stepping onto the ice for the first time or looking to sharpen their skills, we’ve got lessons to help them keep moving forward!

Emergency Management Cowichan has shared an update on the Gala Vista apartment fire, including information about local agencies collecting monetary donations to support those affected. See full details below.

Repairs and cleanup work for the Gala Vista Apartments are expected to take about 2 weeks. Residents on the first, third, and fourth floors should be able to return to their suites after that time. Tenants on the second floor will be instructed on the duration of return later this week.

On Wednesday August 26, 2026, residents will be allowed to come to the site and collect small personal items from their apartment. Tenants from floors 1 and 2 are asked to arrive at 10 a.m., and tenants on floors 3 and 4 at 12:30 p.m. Staff will es**rt residents to their suites, and residents must wear personal protective equipment (N95 masks).

EM Cowichan will continue providing shelter and accommodation support for all evacuated residents for the next 2 weeks while repairs are underway. The EMC Emergency Support Services (ESS) team will contact evacuees later this week to confirm these arrangements.

EMC is not accepting donations. Evacuees can contact us for the phone number for the Free Store and get in touch with the Cowichan Valley Basket Society for extra help with food.

🌊 That’s a wrap at Crofton Outdoor Pool!

Saturday, August 29 will be the last day of the season at Crofton Outdoor Pool.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for a summer of swimming, splashing and fun! 💦 We’ve had a great season and can’t wait to see you back next year! ☀️

The Cowichan Aquatic Centre will be open regular hours through September 5. 🏊‍♀️
Starting September 6, the Cowichan Aquatic Centre will close for its annual maintenance shutdown while we complete important maintenance, repairs and updates. For more information regarding our annual maintenance shutdown, visit: https://buff.ly/whaUWH2

BC Wildfire Service is responding to a wildfire outside of North Cowichan's jurisdiction west of the Chemainus River valley. Smoke is visible from the highway.

UPDATE, AUG 24, 4:36PM: At this time the fire is reported as being 0.009 hectares in size and listed as BEING HELD. North Cowichan Fire Department is aware of the fire and are ready to support if needed.
