One woman. One needle. Two continents. And a community that believed in her. π
Meet Rama, originally from Ghana β and what she creates is more than jewellery. It is identity, heritage, and story worn close to the skin.
Rama grew up with beads. In Ghana, they are not decoration β they are language. A colour worn at a naming ceremony, a pattern passed between grandmothers, a strand that crosses water without losing its meaning. When she moved to Duncan, BC, she brought every bit of that with her.
But building a new life while building a business is never simple. That's where the Cowichan Intercultural Society stepped in.πππ
"CIS has helped me in so many ways, especially through the support of Nadiia. She has been a guide, a mentor, and a friend. In her, I have found not just a settlement counsellor β but a sister."
With that encouragement behind her, Rama kept going. She travels back to Ghana to source her beads herself β walking the markets of Kumasi and Cape Coast, selecting each one by weight and light. Every bead has been held in her hands before it becomes yours. π
Inspired by the colours of the Ghanaian flag π¬π β Red, Gold, Green, and the Black Star β each piece carries pride, history, and spirit. No two are alike. No production line. Just one woman, one needle, and a thread pulled tight at the Duncan Farmers Market and the Kitchen Table.
Wear something no one else in the world will ever own.
