Temperatures are rising this weekend and it's important to know the signs of heat-related illness for yourself and others!

โš ๏ธ Signs of Heat Exhaustion:
โ€ข Skin rash, heavy sweating
โ€ข Dizziness, nausea, headache
โ€ข Rapid breathing, muscle cramps
โ€ข Extreme thirst, dark urine

ACTION: Move to a cool space, drink water and cool the skin with cold water or wet towels. You can find spaces to cool down on this map of Cowichan Valley Cooling Resources to: https://shorturl.at/1C2Ah

๐Ÿšจ Signs of Heat Stroke:
โ€ข High body temp
โ€ข Fainting, confusion or lack of coordination
โ€ข Very hot, red skin

ACTION: Call 9-1-1 immediately and submerge body in cool water

Some may be more affected by the heat and will need extra care. Please check-in with your family members who live alone to ensure they have are staying cool and keeping safe.

Letโ€™s remember it takes a community at Cowichan Community Policing & Engagement Society we work with seniors through our Free Friendly Phones program, Frauds and Scams Presentations, BC Community Response Networks trainedโ€ฆ Itโ€™s Not Right - See something Say Something. We also work in partnership with Cowichan Tribes, Volunteer Cowichan, Cowichan Intercultural Society, Cowichan Independent Living, ICBC, V.I.H.A. as well as other agencies to support our ageing friendly community. We believe that โ€œActive Seniors are Healthy Seniorsโ€. We are always looking for Volunteers who want to support our ageing friendly, older adults, seniors and elders. ๐ŸšงThe City's maintenance crew will be removing and relocating curbing along the parking on Queens Road tomorrow, June 9, between 7:30 am - 12:30 pm.

A detour will be in place over Coronation Hill and traffic control will be on site.

BC Wildfire Service is responding to a possible fire outside of North Cowichan's jurisdiction in the Peerless Road area. Smoke is visible from the highway. There are no details yet on the size or cause, however there are no properties impacted.
