I think someone is trying to blend in! We caught this sweet neighbor playing hide and seek in the woods right across the road from the museum yesterday.

The deer definitely won the first round, but we managed to catch a quick glimpse! Can you spot them right away, or did it take you a second?

"A little snapshot of what makes our location so special.

Yesterday afternoon, we took a quick break to walk the trail right across the road from the museum here in John E. Pearce Provincial Park and were treated to this gorgeous view. With the trees fully leafed out and the mossy stumps looking so green, it felt like a scene straight out of a storybook!

We are so incredibly lucky to share our home at the Backus-Page House Museum with such amazing wildlife.

Have you ever spotted a deer, a rare bird, or other wildlife on our trails during a visit? Drop your favorite nature sightings in the comments below!

The trails at John E. Pearce Provincial Park were looking absolutely magical yesterday, especially with this beautiful visitor stepping into the frame. 💚

There is nothing quite like a peaceful walk under the trees to recharge. Come visit the grounds and see what you can spot!

Well, the heavy rain has officially washed out the outdoor weekend plans. If you can’t get out into the garden today and the local yard sales are rained out, we have the perfect indoor alternative for you!

Our history conference, "Stories & Tales From the Front," officially kicked off this morning at 10:00 AM. Inside the beautiful, dry, and welcoming walls of St. Peter's Church, the atmosphere is warm, the coffee is ready, and the incredible history of Elgin County and the Talbot Settlement is coming alive.

There is something incredibly fitting about listening to stories of past resilience while a storm rolls outside. Don't let the downpour ruin your Saturday—trade the mud and wet grass for a comfortable seat and some fascinating local lore.

📍 Where: St. Peter's Church
🎟️ Admission: By donation (Your support helps us keep preserving our regional history!)
🕒 When: Happening right now! We started at 10:00 AM and the storytelling continues throughout the day.

Pack your umbrella, skip the wet yard work, and come step back in time with us! 👇

The bags are packed. The letters are unsealed. Tomorrow, their voices return.

Imagine standing on the platform at the Dutton train station in 1914, or looking out over the quiet fields of Elgin County in 1942, wondering if your brother, your son, or your husband would ever walk down that dirt road again.

For the brave souls of Southwestern Ontario, those weren’t history lessons—they were everyday reality.

Tomorrow morning, those stories are coming home.

The stage is set, the chairs are out, and our guest authors and speakers have arrived. Tomorrow, the Backus-Page House Museum and St. Peter’s Anglican Church are opening the vault on the letters, the diaries, and the deeply personal local lore of WWI and WWII.

If you’ve been waiting to grab your spot, this is your final reminder. This is a weekend gathering of minds and histories that you won't want to miss.

📍 Where to find us on Saturday and Sunday:
Please note that this conference is being held just down the road from the museum at the historic St. Peter's Anglican Church (29516 Lakeview Line, Wallacetown).

🎖️ Admission Details:
Doors open tomorrow morning at 9:30am. Admission is by donation, with a suggested donation of $10 per person per lecture. Every single dollar goes directly toward supporting the Tyrconnell Heritage Society in keeping local heritage alive and well.

Clear your schedule for the weekend. Bring a friend, bring your curiosity, and join us as we honor the incredible resilience of the war front and the home front.

See you in the morning!
