🚒 Training Night 🚒

While we (impatiently) wait for the snow to melt, we’re making the most of it and getting some training in.

Last night was focused on hose handling and pumper operations. Learning the proper techniques to hold, control, and manoeuvre them safely makes all the difference on scene.

Thank you to all our volunteer firefighters!

Thank you to all our volunteer firefighters!

Our volunteer firefighters aren’t just neighbours helping out—they are highly trained professionals who meet the exact same NFPA standards as full-time crews. They don’t just show up when it’s convenient; they:

‱ leave family dinners at a moment's notice

‱ jump out of bed for 3:00 AM calls

‱ step away from their "day jobs" the second the pager sounds

These individuals are the backbone of our fire services, protecting over 80% of Ontario’s geography. đŸŒČ🚜

This , we’re looking past the gear at the people behind it. To the firefighters balancing careers, families, and the sudden ring of a pager: We see the dedication it takes to serve your community at 3:00 AM and still be at your desk by 9:00 AM.

Thank you for the commitment it takes to balance both roles. 👹‍🚒

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear father, Maurice Gauthier, on March 28, 2026, at the age of 92. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his five children and family.

Maurice was the beloved husband of the late Rollande Léveille (married in 1956), with whom he shared 51 wonderful years of marriage. He was a devoted and cherished father to André Gauthier (Carmen), Liliane Gravel (André), Céline Duguay (Claude),
Doris Maille (Martin), and France Gauthier (Richard).

He was a proud and loving "PépÚre" to Natasha Gauthier, Michelle Gauthier, Nadia Gauthier, Tania Gauthier, Rémi Gravel, Nathalie Gravel, Annik Gravel, Alain Duguay, Félix Duguay, the late Alex Duguay, the late Andrew Maille, and Monica Maille; and a treasured great-grandfather to 21 great-grandchildren.

Born in Earlton on March 13 1934, Maurice was the son of the late Paul Gauthier and the late Jeannette Loranger. He was a dear brother to the late Gérard Gauthier (Cécile Goudreault), the late ThérÚse (Lou Quenneville), the late Marie-Paule (late David Jones), the late Albert (Jeanne d'Arc Rivard), Philippe (Juliette Léveillé), Lucille (late Jerry Panagapka), the late Marcel, the late Lorraine (Stefan Makuch), the late Claire (Nestor Léveillé), and Robert (GisÚle Alary).

He is also survived by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law of the Léveillé family, as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Maurice was a dairy farmer for over 20 years; cultivating and working the fields, and the harvest season, were his true passion. He also worked for 15 years at Temiskaming Plastics, delivering drainage tiles for agricultural land, and later for the Township of Armstrong (approximately 5 years), where he was responsible for the maintenance and management of the arena and the public pool in Earlton.

He found joy in life's simple pleasures: fishing, hunting, camping with his family, picking blueberries, and playing cards, especially cribbage. He enjoyed live music, dancing, socializing, and chatting with people. Deeply involved in his community, he proudly served as a volunteer firefighter in Earlton for 30 years.

Maurice will be remembered for his warm smile, his beautiful blue eyes, his wonderful stories, and his great sense of humour.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Temiskaming Lodge for their kindness and compassion. The small gestures-sharing a hot coffee, offering a warm hug, and providing daily care-made his stay truly special.

The Gauthier family will receive relatives and friends at Paroisse St-Jean-Baptiste Church, 31 - 10th Street West, Earlton, on Friday, April 17, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and on Saturday, April 18 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. A funeral mass will be held at Église St-Jean-Baptiste on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m.

In memory of Maurice, donations to the "Coeur du Village" of Earlton, or to the "Earlton Fire Department" would be greatly appreciated. Condolences and memories may be shared online at buffamleveille.com.

Mr. Gauthier's care has been entrusted to Buffam Leveille Funeral Home.

❄ Winter Safety Reminder ❄
With the significant snowfall we are currently experiencing, Earlton/Armstrong Fire Department would like to remind residents to regularly check and clear snow away from all home vents, including furnace, dryer, and bathroom exhaust vents.

Blocked vents can lead to poor ventilation and serious safety hazards, including carbon monoxide buildup.

Please take a few minutes to shovel around your vents and stay safe during the storm. Please share!

Have you heard of Ontario’s Slow Down, Move Over Law? Here’s what you should know:

When approaching an emergency vehicle with flashing red or red and blue lights, or a tow truck with flashing amber lights stopped on the side of the road, drivers are required by law to:

‱ slow down and proceed with caution
‱ if the road has two or more lanes and it’s safe to do so, move into the other lane to provide space. These measures help protect emergency response personnel.

Let’s all do our part to keep our first responders safe on our roads and highways!

12/05/2025

At approximately 6:10 p.m. on December 4, 2025, the Earlton Armstrong Fire Department responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 11.

We would like to kindly remind all drivers to remain patient while first responders work to manage the scene, and to drive with caution if you are taking an alternate route.

Please note that Rivard Road between Tenth Street East and Hilliardton Road remains closed due to the Earlton Bridge construction. This road is NOT an authorized detour route.

Drive safe, and let’s all do our part to ensure everyone gets home safely.
