Today in McNabs Island History: SS England, Day 1

On April 8th, 1866, the SS England arrived in Halifax with 1200 German, Dutch, and Irish immigrants aboard. Destined for New York, cholera had broken out during the Atlantic crossing, and the ship was quarantined off McNabs Island. Thus began ten days of sickness, agony, and grief on McNabs Island.

Over the next ten days, we'll be sharing the story of SS England’s time in Halifax.
