📚 Skip “How was your day?” this week! 💬

The first week of school can be exciting, overwhelming, exhausting… sometimes all at once! Instead of asking the usual “How was your day?” (and getting the classic “Good.” 😅), try asking questions that make it easier for your child to open up.

❤️ Try asking:

✨ What was the funniest thing that happened today?
👀 What was something you noticed today that you hadn’t noticed before?
🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Who did you sit with at lunch or recess?
🎉 What was the best part of your day?
🤔 Was there anything that felt tricky or confusing?
😂 Did anyone make you laugh today?
🌟 What is something you’re proud of yourself for doing?
🧠 What is one new thing you learned?
💭 Was there a moment today when you felt really happy?
❤️ Was there anything that made you feel nervous or uncomfortable?
🙌 Who was kind to you today?
🎒 If you could change one thing about today, what would it be?

And sometimes, the best conversations happen when you’re not sitting face-to-face. Try asking while driving, making dinner, walking the dog, or getting ready for bed. Kids often open up when the pressure to “talk” is off.

The goal isn't to get every detail about their day. ❤️
It's to let them know that you're interested, you're listening, and they can always talk to you.

Here’s to a great first week of school! 🍎📚✨

🧠 Did you know that children can’t truly learn until they are calm?

Managing big emotions can be tricky, but breaking it down into manageable stages makes a world of difference. We've created a fantastic "Five Steps to Self-Regulation" visual guide to help children recognise and navigate their feelings—from 'Overwhelm' all the way back up to 'Calm'.

Take a peek at the preview in the FREE handout Comment STEP.jpg image attached! It’s an ideal resource for parents, carers, and educators to use at home or in the classroom.

👇 How to get your free copy: Simply comment the word STEP below, and we’ll send the printable handout straight to your messages! ✉️✨

What is it that we need in order to sustain our attention and perform at our best?

We are all different in what it takes to keep our arousal at the best level. Some people can’t cope with any noise while they are trying to think, while others need to have music on constantly. Meeting our arousal needs depends on how we process our sensory information.

The important thing to remember is that some people will need more of these sensory inputs to be at the optimum state of arousal and some will need less. We are then able to to “self-regulate” by getting our arousal levels right even when our environment changes. Self-regulating all of the sensory information can be very difficult for a child. Movement is commonly a way that a child will try and regulate so they can calm and focus. Forcing a child to sit still is counter-productive. When we work out what their sensory needs are we can help support them to meet their best arousal.
