Back to School Bash

Families, join us on Thursday, August 27 from 12:30 to 3:00 PM at the JPWC Community Health Centre (16114 100A Ave NW) as we get ready for the new school year together.

We'll have free school supplies, a colouring contest, door prizes, and plenty of family fun. Admission is free, everyone is welcome, and there's no need to register. Just show up and enjoy the afternoon with us.

One thing to keep in mind: we have a limited number of backpacks filled with everyday supplies, so come early to make sure your kids get theirs.

One backpack per child while supplies last, and kids need to be present to receive one, so bring the whole family.

Backpacks are for students of all ages and packed with the basics to help the year get started.

We can't wait to celebrate the start of the school year with you.

Artist Maaike Kuypers (), with painting assistance from Sylvie Ellis (), has brought the walls of our Community Health Centre to life!

“Nothing For Us Without Us” reflects the people, stories, and everyday moments that make up our community. It represents the many ways care takes shape here, from accessing healthcare, housing, and employment support to sharing coffee, knitting, reading, gardening, or simply spending time together.

Seeing yourself reflected in a place of care sends a clear message: You belong here. Your experiences matter. This place was made with you in mind.

We are incredibly grateful to Maaike and Sylvie for the care, thought, and creativity they brought into our space.

After a rainy start to the season, our gardens at Bridge Healing and Recovery in Transition are finally in the ground.

Community grows where people are given the opportunity to contribute. Gardens just happen to make that visible.

Gardening is one of the many ways people can build routine, learn new skills, contribute to their community, and take pride in something they've helped create.

Join us tomorrow from 12-3 as we celebrate National Indigenous People's Day. Donna will be on site with teachings and you can make your own Dreamcatcher to take home. And word is Shannon may be making her amazing bannock.

Over the last 6 days, we have had the privilege of hosting Dr. David Sheard as we continue reflecting on how we can strengthen and improve the way we support vulnerable people in our community.

In affordable and program-based housing like Bridge Healing, we have spent years focused on developing the structures, staffing models, and systems needed to help people stabilize and move forward. But at JPWC, we have increasingly recognized that we have not spent enough time understanding what these environments should feel like on the inside.

Through workshops, reflection, and honest conversations, this week challenged us to think differently about belonging, human connection, and overall, what it means to create environments that foster hope, meaning, identity, purpose, spirit, and home.

This is not quick work. Building emotionally intelligent, resilient housing environments takes time, humility, intentionality, and a willingness to keep learning and evolving.

There is a long road ahead and much work to do. But this time to learn left us with hope, vision, and a deeper understanding of what may be possible when people come together with openness, honesty, and a shared commitment to doing our work better.

We are deeply grateful to the Alberta Women’s Foundation and Glenora Rotary for helping make this work possible.

We are equally grateful to the guests of Bridge Healing, staff, leadership, board members, and community partners who showed up fully and honestly, and who were willing to have difficult conversations & cry together throughout the workshops.

Lastly, thank you to Dr. Sheard for leading this work. We are excited to continue building it out together.

Tomorrow!

Housing Forward is about moving beyond conversation and into action.

This summit brings together leaders from across sectors to focus on real, practical solutions for housing and the partnerships it takes to make them work.

Our CEO and Co-Founder, Murray Soroka, will be joining a panel on housing as health infrastructure and reducing system pressure through partnership.

If you are working in this space, this is a chance to be part of a conversation grounded in real experience, real challenges, and real solutions.
