Volunteers Needed – Métis Languages Event
We're looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help make pîkoskiwiyahk îwâyatinâk: Michif in the Valley a welcoming and memorable experience for families and community members.

📅 Date: Saturday, August 15
⏰ Volunteer Shift: 2:30–8:30 pm
🎉 Public Event: 3:30–10:00 pm

Volunteers will help with:
Welcoming guests and providing directions
Assisting Elders and language speakers
Supporting language and cultural activities
Helping with activity stations and the family scavenger hunt
Creating a warm, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere throughout the day
🍽️ Dinner will be provided for all volunteers.

Healthy food, less stress, and zero cost to families. In partnership with Goodfood, the School Food Program is relaunching Nourishing Families on August 17 at 11 am!

These easy-to-prepare meal kits include simple recipes and pre-portioned ingredients. They are delivered right to your home mid-September. Heading back to school is a stressful time for everyone in the family, but cooking together doesn’t have to be.

Families who have already received a meal-kit box from Goodfood can re-apply! Families who have not already received a box will be given priority to ensure no eligible family is left without!

Join us for the opening reception of the Expressions of Métis Religion and Spirituality exhibition on August 7 at Harcourt House Gallery ().

Featuring the artwork of Métis artists Arlo Henry, Christopher Savard, Jocelyn Lamothe, Krista Leddy, Kirsten Lindquist, and Maria Nelson. These artists have come together to create an exhibition that represents the diverse identities and experiences of Métis religion and spirituality.

Date and Time

Opening event: August 7, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.

The exhibits will be on show from August 7 - September 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Monday to Saturday).

The Otipemisiwak Métis Government’s Emergency Management Team invites our Citizens to register for the Emergency Preparedness Kit Program, designed to help you and your family begin your emergency preparedness journey.

With the increasing frequency of natural disasters in Alberta, including flooding and wildfires that can result in power outages, it is important to be prepared to evacuate if necessary. Each preparedness kit contains a first aid box, emergency radio, flashlight, emergency kit checklist, and other essential resources.

Citizens of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government aged 18 or older are eligible for this program. Each qualifying household may only submit one application. Participants will be selected by a random draw.

The Chair of the Citizens’ Council wishes to advise Citizens that the next meeting of the Citizens’ Council will take place tomorrow, July 30.

The June 30, 2026 meeting will be open from 9:30 a.m. at the Coast Nisku Inn & Conference Centre (1101 4 St, Nisku) in the Nisku Ballroom.

A livestream will be available on our Citizens’ Council Meeting YouTube channel.

The kisîhtoskâtonaw Métis Arts Collective invites you to our Community Art Drop-In events!

Bring along any creative project you're currently working on, whether it's beading, knitting, crocheting, drawing, embroidery, or another art form, and enjoy creating in a welcoming community space.

These drop-in sessions are free and open to everyone. Children under the age of 16 are requested to be accompanied by an adult.

Want to learn more about your local wildlife and support our monitoring programs at the same time? Here’s your chance!

Our Environment and Climate Change Department is looking for 15 Otipemisiwak Métis Government Citizens who would like to deploy a wildlife camera on their property. Cameras, equipment, and training resources will be provided. Participating Citizens must either own or have permission to access private land.

Missed your chance to participate in our Heat Response Program? The Environment and Climate Change Department is pleased to announce that it has secured 50 additional Heat Response Kits!

The kit includes an AC unit as well as other materials and resources to keep you and your home cool and energy efficient during heat waves.

To be eligible for a kit, you must be:
• Aged 60+
• A registered Otipemisiwak Métis Government Citizen
• Residing in Alberta

If you have not previously submitted an application, we invite you to apply!

If you previously applied for a kit and did not receive one, you’ll be re-entered into the random draw automatically. No longer interested in receiving a kit? Please let us know at [email protected].

Registration closes August 2, 2026. Recipients will be selected through a randomized draw.
