Mamawo Payiwak is a two-day Indigenous cultural gathering hosted by the Edmonton Aboriginal Seniors Centre during Alberta Culture Days. Taking place September 9–10, 2026, the event honours Métis, First Nations, and Inuit cultures through storytelling, traditional teachings, food, language, music, dance, workshops, and intergenerational learning. Free and open to the public, the gathering creates opportunities for connection, wellness, cultural sharing, and reconciliation.

In partnership with Alberta Ballet, the Indigenous Sport Council of Alberta is excited to offer a beginner dance program for Indigenous youth ages 7-12 in Medicine Hat.

The program runs weekly and consists of 30 minutes of ballet and 30 minutes of powwow. Indigenous youth will have the opportunity to learn both styles of dance while incorporating cultural connection and creative expression.

Start date: September 11, 2026
Finish date: October 16, 2026
Duration: 6 weeks
Days: Every Friday
Time: 5:30 - 6:45 PM
Ages: 7 - 12
Cost: $30.00 (that's only $5 per class!)
