Caregivers Alberta is a nonprofit organization that focuses on the well-being of family & friend caregivers by providing supports and programs.

Many caregivers face serious issues that affect their physical, mental emotional, social and financial well-being. It is as vital to care for the caregiver as it is to care for the recipient. We are here to help you take care of you , not make you a "better" caregiver.

🏠 A more accessible home can make everyday life safer and easier.

Caregivers Alberta is proud to highlight the RAMP (Residential Access Modification Program), which provides grants to help eligible Albertans with mobility challenges make accessibility modifications to their homes, or the homes where they are living.

RAMP can help support modifications such as:

♿ Ramps
🪜 Stair lifts
🚿 Accessible bathrooms
🏡 Other mobility-related home adaptations

These modifications can help people living with mobility challenges move around their homes more safely and comfortably.

The program may be available to Alberta residents who use a wheelchair or four-wheel walker on an ongoing basis, live with a progressive neuro-degenerative disease, and meet the program’s eligibility requirements.

A New Community for Caregivers in Stony Plain

Vickie Boechler has spent much of her life caring for others. Now, she’s creating a space for caregivers in her community to connect.

A retired registered nurse with 40 years of experience, Vickie has also cared for her mother and, today, her husband, who is legally blind.

As a Caregivers Alberta ambassador, she often meets people who don’t realize they’re caregivers.

“They just think they’re doing what needs to be done,” she says. “But they are a caregiver.”

This October, Vickie is bringing a new monthly, in-person peer support group to Stony Plain and the surrounding area.

She’s been working with Community Social Development and local community members to help shape the program around what they need.

Her dedication to caregivers recently earned her the 2026 Caregivers Alberta Volunteer Award.

October is Canada’s Healthy Workplace Month, organized by Excellence Canada, with this year’s theme, “Wellness. Your Way.”

For employees who are also family and friend caregivers, wellness at work can mean having the recognition, flexibility, and support needed to balance employment with caregiving responsibilities.

At Caregivers Alberta, our Work & Care program helps employers create caregiver-friendly workplaces that support employees balancing work and caregiving. Through practical training, resources, and evidence-informed strategies, organizations can strengthen workplace policies, improve employee well-being, increase retention, and foster a more inclusive workplace culture.

Caregiving doesn’t stop when the workday starts. Creating a workplace that recognizes the realities of caregiving can help employees feel valued, understood, and equipped to manage both their work and caregiving responsibilities.

Support shouldn't depend on your postal code.

For caregivers living in rural Alberta, finding support can come with challenges that many of us don't have to think about. Distance, limited local services, unreliable internet access, and the realities of providing care at home can all make it harder to find the right resources and, sometimes, simply feel connected.

For some caregivers, what might seem like a simple opportunity to connect can require extraordinary effort.

One rural caregiver was connected with a group of male caregivers who knew firsthand what it was like to care for a spouse. It gave him a place to share his experiences, talk with others facing similar challenges, and feel less alone. But accessing that connection wasn't as simple as logging on from home.

His internet connection was unreliable, so he would drive 30 minutes to the nearest cellphone tower to get a strong enough signal to participate.

Thirty minutes there. Thirty minutes back. Just to have a place where he could talk, listen, and connect with people who could relate to what he was going through.

For this caregiver, that connection was worth the drive. But caregivers shouldn't have to overcome barriers like this just to find the support they need.

This is why caregiver support needs to be flexible, accessible, and responsive to the realities of where caregivers live.

Caregivers Alberta connects caregivers with resources and services that fit their circumstances, through our own programs and services, and through the relationships we build with organizations across Alberta.

Your support helps make those connections possible, helping ensure that distance, unreliable internet access, or where someone lives doesn't have to stand between a caregiver and the support they need.
