Back to giving back! đź’™

After a well-deserved summer break, our participants in the Calgary program are back to volunteering with Brown Bagging for Calgary's Kids. This organization provides nutritious lunches to children and youth in our community.

Volunteering helps our participants build confidence, practice teamwork, develop new skills, and make a meaningful contribution to their community. It’s more than just lending a helping hand; it’s about being part of something bigger and witnessing the positive impact of their time and effort.

A big thank you to all our Chrysalis volunteers in Calgary and Edmonton! Your time, energy, and dedication are making a difference in our communities, and we are incredibly proud of your contributions.

What an unforgettable day in Edmonton!

Our program participants transformed our yard to celebrate Eating Outside Day in style, and the energy was absolutely electric! This fun celebration encourages everyone to step outside, enjoy the fresh air, and savour a meal in the sunshine. It was a fantastic way to embrace summer right here in our own space, complete with live music, delicious lunches, and refreshing popsicles generously provided by 102.3 Now! Radio Trucicle!

Having events like this in our yard is particularly important for adults with disabilities. It offers a familiar, safe, and fully accessible environment where participants can build confidence, express themselves, and connect with others in a meaningful way. Watching everyone share laughter, deepen friendships, and engage in spontaneous dance-offs illustrates how simple moments in shared spaces can foster genuine inclusion and belonging.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this celebration so special! Your ongoing support enables us to create meaningful moments where the adults in our programs feel valued and celebrated every day. Let’s keep these good vibes going!

Every voice has a story to tell, and our storytelling program, Read It, Write It, Tell It! is designed to help participants bring those stories to life. Learning how to express ourselves is a powerful journey, and this program offers a supportive space to explore the world of narrative through reading, creative writing, and group sharing. Together, we are discovering how words can connect us, inspire us, and spark original ideas.

Beyond developing literary and communication skills, participants build deep personal confidence as they share their unique perspectives. Whether diving into a favourite book, putting original thoughts onto paper, or presenting a story out loud to peers, everyone moves at their own pace while building strong independent expression and collaborative habits. Each story completed is a reminder that our thoughts, experiences, and imaginations matter.

Learning isn’t one-size-fits-all, and that’s what makes the IXL Program so powerful. Every day, participants step into a supportive environment where they can work side-by-side while developing their own independent study habits. Some choose to focus on strengthening their language arts skills, diving into reading comprehension, vocabulary, and communication. Others focus on math problem-solving, tackling everything from core numeracy to complex calculations at a pace that works best for them.

Beyond the screen, the real magic happens in the confidence that grows with every completed lesson. As participants track their personal progress and celebrate their milestones, what begins as a simple learning exercise quickly turns into something much bigger: a sense of achievement, pride, and belief in their own abilities. Overcoming challenges in the program gives everyone the momentum to set higher goals, navigate everyday life with greater independence, and unlock new opportunities for the future.

Making waves and staying active in the community!

Every week, our participants count down the days until our trip to Clareview Community Recreation Centre! From hitting the exercise machines to diving into the pool, these visits are packed with energy, movement, and plenty of laughs. It’s the ultimate way to build strength, stay healthy, and enjoy all the fantastic amenities our local recreation facility has to offer.

Beyond the workout, these weekly adventures are all about belonging and community connection. Being out and about at Clareview allows everyone to socialize, build confidence in public spaces, and actively participate in the neighbourhood we love. We're already looking forward to our next visit!
