To renew a dental assistant practice permit, registrants need to meet current practice requirements.

We generally consider practice current when a dental assistant has at least 300 eligible practice hours within the three years before applying to renew, or meets another accepted current-practice option.

Dental assistants without enough hours may need a clinical refresher or another accepted form of substantial equivalence. If advanced practice authorization applies, additional refresher requirements may also apply.

Dental Assistants in Alberta can get ready by:
✔ completing Patient Relations Learning
✔ reviewing Continuing Competence Program requirements and learning goals
✔ confirming current practice hours
✔ reviewing and updating contact and employment information in the CADA portal
✔ renewing professional liability insurance when available

The renewal deadline is November 30.
