Bissell Centre We are an Edmonton-based nonprofit organization working towards the elimination of poverty and homelessness in our community.

Our main hours are our office hours. The Community Space is open Monday to Saturday from 9 am to 6:30 pm and Sunday from 11 am to 6:30 pm. Lunch is served at 11:30 am and dinner is at 4 pm. Housing program services are available weekdays from 9 am to 4 pm, and Housing Workshops run 11 am to 1 pm on Mondays and Fridays. Laundry and showers are available daily until a couple hours before the space closes. Free tax clinics are open every Monday from 1 - 3:30 pm in Bissell East (10530 96 St.).

At Bissell Centre, we know the challenges facing our community won’t be solved overnight. But through innovation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to dignity and hope, we’re continuing to create meaningful change together.

Last year was about renewal and recommitment. In 2026, we’re taking that momentum even further. Co-creating solutions alongside community members, supporters, partners, and funders to build lasting impact for generations to come.

Both the sweat lodge, made with young willow trees, and the bear’s den are places in-between, meant for letting go of things that no longer serve us — making space for the body to heal, and building dreams of a better future.

Den of Willows, Bissell Centre’s new supportive recovery house, is that space for residents. Named with guidance from Ceremonialist Orest Zwozdesky, the name Den of Willows embodies the protective and nurturing nature of the bear as well as the medicine, ceremony, and flexibility of the willow. Through the 24/7 support tailored for people with FASD, the residents at Den of Willows can find their stability, share their growth with each other, and demonstrate it to the greater community.

Eliminating poverty is all our responsibilities, and this is just one way we’re working to show up for one another and help strengthen and rebuild the community. Learn more about Den of Willows and Bissell Centre’s approach to supportive recovery housing.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is a time to celebrate the strength, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous communities while deepening our understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and ways of knowing.

96 Street in front of Bissell Centre will be closed for the day and filled with music, food, performances, and activities for all ages. Through gathering, learning, and celebrating together, we can continue building a more connected and inclusive community.

Did you know Eye Care Group offers low barrier access to services at our Service Hub for people experiencing difficulties accessing eye testing and eye wear? Not only does this help diagnose potential eye conditions in people, it can also help prevent further health issues and vision complications.

When people treat their vision, it can reduce barriers to employment readiness, literacy, education, housing stability, and personal independence. Eye care helps people take meaningful steps toward preserving dignity and autonomy while influencing well-being, confidence, safety, and daily functioning.

We’re so excited to introduce Den of Willows, our new supportive recovery housing project!

Supportive recovery housing helps close the gap for people needing housing that supports their sobriety journey — that’s why we’re taking intentional steps
to create housing alternatives in Edmonton.

Not only does Den of Willows fill this crucial gap, it also includes 24/7 wraparound supports from on-site staff. Supports are catered to people with FASD including life-skills development, employment readiness, cultural support, connections to health, and community services.

Den of Willows is just one part Bissell Centre’s larger three-year strategy to increase options for people experiencing housing instability — a vital part to rebuilding and strengthening the community.

Join us on Friday, June 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a celebration honouring Indigenous identity, culture, and traditions.

National Indigenous Peoples Day is an opportunity to learn from and celebrate the diverse cultures, histories, and contributions of First Nations, MĂ©tis, and Inuit Peoples. It is also a time to reflect on our collective commitment to truth, reconciliation, and building stronger relationships with Indigenous communities.

96 Street in front of Bissell Centre will be closed for the day and filled with music, food, performances, and activities for all ages. Together, we'll celebrate Indigenous cultures while creating space for learning, connection, and community.
