Albertans will be going to the polls on October 19th. What questions can you expect on the ballot? Let’s explore the meaning behind the questions.

The question:
Do you support the Government of Alberta working with the governments of other willing provinces to amend the Canadian Constitution to better protect provincial rights from federal interference by giving a province's laws dealing with provincial or shared areas of constitutional jurisdiction priority over federal laws when the province's laws and federal laws conflict?

What is this really asking?
This asks if Alberta should be able to override federal laws in shared areas of responsibility.

Why this matters for Treaty No. 6:
Treaty No. 6 is a relationship with the Crown. Provincial laws cannot override Treaty commitments.

Who this affects:
This affects how rights and protections are upheld across Alberta.

CT6’s recommendation:
Vote No.

Same land. Same future.

Albertans will be going to the polls on October 19th. What are the referendum questions really asking? Let’s explore the meaning behind the questions.

The question:
Do you support the Government of Alberta working with the governments of other willing provinces to amend the Canadian Constitution to allow provinces to opt out of federal programs that intrude on provincial jurisdiction such as health care, education and social services, without a province losing any of the associated federal funding for use in its social programs?

What is this really asking?
This asks if Alberta should pick and choose which federal programs it follows while still receiving federal funding.

Why this matters for Treaty No. 6:
If Alberta can override federal programs, it could weaken protections that support healthcare, housing, education and Treaty commitments.

Who this affects:
This affects families, students, and people who rely on federal supports.

CT6’s recommendation:
Vote No.

For our tomorrow.

Albertans will be going to the polls on October 19th. What are the referendum questions asking? Let’s explore the meaning behind the questions.

The question:
Do you support the Government of Alberta working with the governments of other willing provinces to amend the Canadian Constitution to abolish the unelected federal Senate?

What is this really asking?
This asks whether Canada should remove a national check-and-balance in the law-making process.

Why this matters for Treaty No. 6:
Removing national checks and balances could affect how rights and Treaty commitments are protected.

Who this affects:
This affects all Albertans who rely on national protections.

CT6’s recommendation:
Vote No.

Build bridges, not division.
