Can I be honest for a second?

I don't think most people need another person telling them what they're doing wrong. I think they need someone who's willing to show up.
Someone who can sit at the kitchen table while life is happening. Someone who can help when conversations keep turning into arguments. Someone who can say, "Okay... let's figure this out together."

That's exactly why I started Rivet.

Because I kept meeting people who were exhausted. Not because they didn't care. Because they cared so much and had no idea what to do next.

Maybe that's you.
Maybe your teen won't talk to you anymore. Maybe every conversation ends with slammed doors. Maybe your child says they're fine, but you know something isn't right. Maybe you dont know what you need or where to turn, but you just know that SOMETHING needs to shift.

Or maybe you're just tired of feeling like you're supposed to have all the answers.

Here's the thing...
You don't have to.

Most people have never heard of family support services (because the help that Rivet offers doesn't really exist elsewhere!), so they don't even know it's an option.

It's different than sitting in an office once a week.

I come to you.

We work through the things that are happening in your actual life—not the version you remember a week later.

Sometimes that means helping parents and teens finally hear each other in the moment, in your environment as it organically happens. Sometimes it means helping you figure out what supports you or your child actually need. Sometimes it means helping you nreak your goals into managable targets. And sometimes it just means having someone beside you who isn't judging you while you're trying your best.

So I want to try something different...

I'm opening 10 Family Support Sessions for people who have always wondered if this kind of support would actually help.

Your first session is $99.

No pressure.
No commitment.

Just an opportunity to experience what I do and decide whether it's a good fit for you and your family.

If you've been sitting there thinking,
"I wish someone could just help us..."

Send me a message.

We'll start there. ❤️

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that families need to know exactly what kind of help they need before reaching out.

The truth?

You don't.

Parents often contact me saying:

- "I don't know how to help my kid anymore."
- "Every conversation turns into an argument."
- "They say they don't need help."
- "I don't know if we need counseling, family support, school supports, or something else."

If that sounds familiar, take a deep breath.
You don't have to figure it out on your own.

One of the things that makes Rivet Support Services different is that I don't just provide counseling—I also offer family support, including in-home services throughout Edmonton.

That means we can work together where life is actually happening.

Instead of trying to remember what happened during a difficult conversation three days ago, we can build communication skills, problem-solve, and practice new strategies in the environment where your family spends the most time.

For many youth, meeting in a familiar setting also feels much less intimidating than walking into an office. It can make it easier to build trust, reduce anxiety, and create more natural conversations.
Whether your family needs counseling, family support, help navigating resources, or simply someone to walk alongside you while you figure things out, you don't have to do it alone.

❤️ Sometimes the hardest part is taking the first step.

If you're not sure where to start, let's start with a conversation.

This is the part of me you don't usually see...

This isn't a polished headshot.
It's not a picture from my office.
It's not me looking like I have everything together.

It's me after a long week.
Curled up on the couch.
Running on empty.
With Coco making sure I don't have to recharge alone.

The funny thing about working in mental health is that people sometimes assume we have life figured out.

We don't.

I still have days where I'm exhausted.
Days where I need quiet.
Days where my to-do list wins.
Days where the best thing I can do is slow down.

And I've learned something important...

You don't have to earn rest.
You don't have to wait until you're completely burnt out before taking care of yourself.

As social workers, counselors, parents, caregivers, students, and humans, we spend so much time taking care of everyone else that we forget we're allowed to need care too.

So today, this was my reset.

No guilt.
No productivity.

Just a nap, a warm blanket, and a tiny dog who refuses to leave my side.

Tomorrow I'll get back to helping others.
Today, I'm letting myself be human.

❤️ Jamie

Trauma isn't always obvious.

Sometimes it looks like anxiety.
Sometimes anger.
Sometimes perfectionism.
Sometimes being the person who takes care of everyone else while quietly falling apart.

Understanding trauma isn't about making excuses—it's about making sense of behaviors so we can respond with compassion instead of judgment.

Healing is possible, and it starts with understanding how the nervous system works.

Renovation update... and a reality check. 😂

Remember when I said, "They said I couldn't, so of course I was going to"?

Well... nobody warned me that I'd eventually become one with the drywall dust. 😅

This project has taught me way more than how to lay flooring, tile a fireplace, install trim, or fix plumbing.

It's taught me patience.
Problem-solving.
How to laugh at my mistakes.
And that YouTube might actually deserve an honorary trade certificate.

There are days when I look around and wonder, "What on earth have I gotten myself into?"

But then I look back at where I started, and I realize how much I've learned simply by refusing to quit.

Honestly, that's the same mindset I bring to Rivet.

Life doesn't come with instructions. Whether you're navigating parenting, mental health, family conflict, or a major life transition, you don't need to have everything figured out today.

You just need someone willing to help you work through it—one step, one problem, and one small win at a time.

Now, if you'll excuse me... I have another project that's waiting to humble me. 🔨😂

The best conversations don't always happen in an office. ❤️

Sometimes they happen on the couch.

Sometimes they're interrupted by a dog asking for attention.

Sometimes they happen over coffee.

And sometimes they're simply about finally having someone who listens without judgment.

That's one of the reasons I started Rivet Support Services. I wanted to create a space where people feel comfortable enough to be themselves—whether we're meeting in the office, your home, virtually, or wherever life happens.

Real life isn't perfect. Support doesn't have to be either.

If you're looking for practical, down-to-earth support for your teen, your family, or yourself, I'd love to help.

(And yes... if Coco comes to say hello during a virtual session, she usually steals the show. 🐶💕)

Using your benefits shouldn't be the hardest part of getting support.

One of the questions I get asked most is:
"Do you direct bill?"

The answer is YES! 🙌

I can direct bill through Sun Life and many insurance plans that use the TELUS Health eClaims network. Depending on your plan, this may include insurers such as:
✅ Sun Life
✅ Canada Life
✅ Manulife
✅ Alberta Blue Cross
✅ GreenShield
✅ Desjardins Insurance
✅ Equitable
✅ GMS
✅ ClaimSecure
✅ GroupHEALTH
…and many more.

That means:
✔ Less paperwork
✔ Less waiting for reimbursement
✔ Less financial stress

Not sure if your plan covers my services?

No problem! Send me a message with the name of your insurance provider, and I'll help you determine whether direct billing is available before your first appointment.

Renovation update... 👷🏻‍♀️🔨

A little while ago, I posted, "They said I couldn't... so of course I was going to."

Well... here's your progress report.

Somehow, this condo is actually starting to look like a home- or at least like it WILL be a home! 🤣

I've learned how to lay flooring, tackle plumbing, grind concrete, cut and install baseboards, and solve about 437 problems I didn't even know existed when I started.

Has everything gone according to plan? Absolutely not.

Have there been moments where I've questioned my life choices? More than once. 😅

But every challenge I've figured out has reminded me of something I see every day through Rivet...

Growth doesn't happen because everything is easy. It happens because you keep showing up, even when you have no idea what you're doing.

Whether you're renovating a condo, parenting through tough seasons, supporting a struggling teen, or rebuilding after life throws you a curveball, progress rarely looks perfect.

It looks messy.
It looks frustrating.
It looks like learning.
And then one day, you look back and realize how far you've come.

Now... back to pretending I know what I'm doing. 😂🔨

"They said I couldn't... so of course I was going to."

I've never believed that "I can't" is a good enough reason not to try.

Am I a contractor? Nope.
Did I know exactly what I was doing when I started? Also nope. 😅

But here's what I did know:
✔️ I could learn.
✔️ I could make mistakes.
✔️ I could figure it out.
✔️ And if all else failed... Google and YouTube were coming with me. 😂

So here I am, renovating my son's condo one project at a time—ripping up tile, laying new floors, installing lights, and probably inventing a few new swear words along the way.

The funny thing? This is exactly how I approach life... and it's exactly how I approach my work at Rivet.

Families don't come to me because life is perfect. They come because something feels overwhelming and they don't know where to start.

My job isn't to magically fix everything. It's to roll up my sleeves, help break big problems into manageable steps, teach new skills, and remind people they're more capable than they think.

Whether it's renovating a condo or navigating mental health, parenting, school, or life's curveballs... the first step is believing that "I can't" can become "Watch me."

Now... let's see if this renovation survives me. 😂🔨💙
