As you head out to enjoy the civic long weekend, please remember that a few extra minutes on the road are worth far more than taking unnecessary risks.

Firefighters, paramedics, police officers, and all first responders share one goal: we want everyone to arrive at their destination safely.

Please:
🚗 Slow down and obey posted speed limits.
📵 Put your phone away and stay focused on the road.
🚫 Never drive impaired.
🚒 Move over and slow down for emergency vehicles stopped at the roadside.
❤️ Be patient, courteous, and look out for one another.

This long weekend, let's make safety the priority so everyone can enjoy time with family and friends—and return home safely.

✅ Plug major appliances directly into wall
outlets
✅ Avoid "daisy chaining" extension cords or power bars
✅ Use power bars with built-in surge
protection
✅ Check cords regularly for damage or wear

Recall Alert: Fire Hazard:

Spector and Co. has recalled the Super Off-Road 12,000 mAh Solar Wireless Power Bank (model T1037). The lithium-ion battery in this portable wireless charger may overheat and swell, posing a fire hazard.

If you own the affected product, stop using it immediately and visit the Spector and Co. website to register for a refund and receive disposal instructions.

Recall Alert: Flammability Hazard:

U Kids has expanded the recall of We Love Cozy children’s pajama sets and lounge pants for violating flammability requirements. The loose-fitting sleepwear can make easy contact with ignition sources and burn rapidly, posing a risk of burn injuries.

Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately and return them to Urban Kids or Urban Planet for a refund.

Fire doesn’t care about excuses.

➡️ Living in a rental? Test your alarms monthly and notify your landlord if they aren’t working.
➡️ Burnt dinner a few months ago and heard the alarm sound? That’s not enough. Press the ‘test’ button every month to make sure they’re working.
➡️ Already have an alarm on the main floor of your home? You need a working smoke alarm on every storey and outside all sleeping areas.

No excuses, because only working smoke alarms can save lives.

Having working smoke alarms where required isn’t just smart - it’s the law.

🔥 Open Air Burning Ban in Effect 🔥

Please be advised that Open Air Burning is no longer permitted in North Algona Wilberforce Township.

Residents may still have small campfires, provided they are contained and do not exceed 2 feet by 2 feet (2' x 2') in size

As conditions continue to be dry and wildfire risk remains elevated, we ask everyone to exercise caution when enjoying a campfire:

✔️ Never leave a fire unattended
✔️ Keep water and tools readily available
✔️ Ensure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving the area
✔️ Burn only when the weather conditions are suitable.

The North Algona Wilberforce Fire Department would like to extend our deepest condolences to the Sauk and Kohlsmith families and friends during this difficult time.

Peter Sauk was a valued part of our fire service family and community. He played an important role in helping organize and build the Rankin Fire Hall and dedicated many years of service as an Auxiliary member. His commitment, hard work, and support of the department will not be forgotten.

We are grateful for Peter's contributions and the lasting impact he made on our department and community. Our thoughts and prayers are with all who knew and loved him.
