Our team spent yesterday's practice session visiting areas south of town to enhance our emergency preparedness!
We toured several key locations, including:

🌲 Elbow Lutheran Bible Camp
🏡 The Resort Village of Mistusinne
🌲 Douglas Provincial Park

During the visits, our members focused on critical safety and response factors:
💧 Water Supply: Assessing available water sources (and identifying areas with a lack thereof).
🚗 Emergency Access: Reviewing entry and exit routes to these communities to ensure fast response times.
⚠️ Risk Assessment: Speaking directly with local facility representatives to discuss potential hazards and safety risks.

A huge thank you to the individuals who took the time to show us around their facilities and help us keep our community safe.

ATTENTION ELBOW RESIDENTS: DONT OVERPAY FOR HOME INSURANCE
Are you renewing your home insurance soon? Please check your paperwork carefully. We have heard from multiple residents that some insurance providers are using outdated mapping data. They are currently showing fire ratings less than fully protected Dwelling Protection Grades (DPG3A).
What is happening? Some providers are dragging their feet on updating their risk maps. They are using outdated numbers from between Nov 2025 & March 2026. This was the brief window when our department missed the deadline to upgrade our frontline Engine. SGI Canada in particular is delaying updating their mapping data.
What should you do? Check your insurance policy's fire rating or DPG. If it shows anything less than fully protected, do not accept it. Reach out to us directly. We will provide you with the updated, official maps indicating our correct, current rating to send to your provider. Don't overpay for your home insurance due to outdated company data!

We’ve received several inquiries regarding the guidelines for the scrap steel bin, so we would like to share a quick reminder on what is permitted. Please note that propane tanks may only be placed in the bin if they have been properly prepared: the valve must be removed, a hole must be cut into the tank, and the tank must be spray-painted to indicate it is ready for disposal. Thank you for your cooperation! A new bin is scheduled to arrive in a week, so let's get this current one filled up.

It takes a community, Gee Bee Construction made the donation of new tires for E431J, bringing it into compliance. Between GeeBee, Diefenbaker building supplies, Rm of Loreburn #254 and Scotty Frazer, we were able to make the swap.

Very thankful to everyone utilizing our scrap steel bin for fundraising for newer equipment and gear.

But please follow the list of exclusions. Plastic fencing is 100% not allowed.

Also, we’ve pulled out barbed wire and metal chainlink fence (both excluded items). This creates more work for our volunteers, please don’t use the steel bin for disposing of your garbage.
