Very thankful to everyone utilizing our scrap steel bin for fundraising for newer equipment and gear.

But please follow the list of exclusions. Plastic fencing is 100% not allowed.

Also, we’ve pulled out barbed wire and metal chainlink fence (both excluded items). This creates more work for our volunteers, please don’t use the steel bin for disposing of your garbage.

*Update: Our pump has made the journey to Elbow. Thanks to all those who reached out and thanks to Logan for taking the detour from bull hauling.
Looking for anyone travelling from Edmonton to Elbow that would be willing to grab a piece of equipment for our department. Wanting to check with our community before spending money on freight. A truck would be required.

Good reminder to everyone who may operate an atv, sxs, dirt bike, golf cart or snowmobile that there are bylaws posted on village website for rules to follow within town limits. Have fun!

🏍️ Saskatchewan RCMP are reminding ATV riders to put safety first as outdoor season gets underway across the province.

Police say helmets, sober driving, and following ATV regulations can help prevent serious injuries and fatalities this spring and summer.

🔥 Quick Insurance Tip for my Elbow Neighbors!
If your house is within 300m of a hydrant, you might be overpaying for fire insurance! We recently upgraded our fire protection to DPG 3A status by purchasing a newer truck, which means most homes now qualify for a "Fully Protected" rate. There was a short window between Nov 2025 and March 2026 (while we were waiting for pump tests) where rates may have dropped to "Semi-Protected." Some insurance companies are slow to update their records. Double-check your policy before your next renewal—it could save you a decent amount of money! We worked with brokers for years on this, and it’s finally official.

📢 Great news for the Elbow Sk! 🚒

The Elbow Fire Department is proud to announce that we have officially reached a DPG 3A rating for hydrant-protected properties. This milestone was made possible by the purchase of our 2004 fire truck, which provided the necessary equipment criteria to qualify.
A huge thank you to our dedicated members and supporters for making this happen!

What this means for property owners:
If your property is within 300m of a hydrant and 8km of the station, you may see:

* Lower Insurance Premiums: Moving from DPG 5 to 3A can lead to significant savings on fire insurance.
* Recognized Protection: This rating confirms that we have the water supply and equipment for a superior fire response.

Note: This applies to insurance providers that use Fire Underwriters Survey (FUS) data.

If you have any questions, please reach out to your local insurance brokers, as they are the experts in this field.

Come see Doc Walker April 17 at HGCC if you made it through all that.

EVFD Lake Diefenbaker Water Rescue Reminder:
The Elbow Volunteer Fire Department has not provided water rescue services since 2023. After EVFD withdrew to address specific safety and capability gaps, the Outlook Rudy Fire Department followed suit by also removing themselves from Lake Rescue operations. Following extensive discussions in 2023, a viable path forward regarding equipment and training requirements was not established with the SPSA. As a result, the SPSA assigned the Saskatchewan RCMP to manage lake responses in our place. No further progress has occurred since that time.

What you need to know:
There is currently no quick-response team for the leg between Tufts Bay and Gardiner Damn of Lake Diefenbaker. Since the RCMP response may take significant time, please:
• Have a safety plan in place before launching.
• Ensure all safety gear is on board.
• Exercise extreme caution on the water.
—please be prepared.

Recent Lake Diefenbaker Drowning Incidents
• July 2024: A male paddleboarder was found deceased near Douglas Provincial Park boat launch.
• August 2023: A 35-year-old man drowned trying to assist others.
• July 1, 2021: 36-year-old drowned near the Palliser Regional Park.
• August 2020: A 35-year-old man drowned near Gardiner Dam while swimming.
• September 2017: A 70-year-old man died after a boat capsized near Danielson Provincial Park.
