BRIDGE REPAIR

Motorists travelling near Elk Point will want to plan ahead.

Highway 41, about one-and-a-half kilometres north of Highway 29, will be closed from September 1st (TOMORROW) through September 30th as crews repair a section of roadway damaged by an earlier landslide and build a temporary bypass.

Traffic will be detoured via Highways 29, 881, and 28. Until the full closure is in place, expect one-lane alternating traffic, delays, and reduced speeds.

Elk Point RCMP and St. Paul Traffic Services will also be conducting enhanced patrols along the detour routes to help keep motorists and workers safe.

Monitor 511 Alberta for highway and road conditions.

A huge thank you to Scott Martin and Marsco Contracting for their generous donation of the Bowflex Machine to the Elk Point Fire Department Gym!

Staying ready for duty—regardless of being a volunteer firefighter—is an important part of what we do, and gestures like this make a real difference. Your generosity and support of our department are truly appreciated and certainly do not go unnoticed.

On behalf of everyone at the Elk Point Fire Department, thank you for supporting our volunteers and helping us stay ready to serve our community. We are grateful for your kindness!

Re: FIRE Advisory

With the increased drying and cured grass hazard, a Fire Advisory is now in place for the County of St. Paul effective 12:00 PM Monday May 11, 2026. Any previous burning sites should be checked by landowner for full and complete extinguishment. Extreme caution should be exercised during windy conditions with any activity that may start a grass fire.

Level 2 FIRE ADVISORY reads as follows:

-Safe wood campfires are allowed on private lands and in campgrounds.
-Issuance of fire permits for any other open-air fire may be restricted.
-Existing permits would be honored, however issuance of new permits may be suspended.

If you have any questions, you may direct enquiries to the County of St. Paul at 780-645-3301 or St. Paul Fire Services at 780-645-4100.

NEW RESCUE TOOLS

On March 10th the Elk Point Fire Department took delivery of brand-new battery powered Hurst Jaws of Life rescue tools from Rocky Mountain Phoenix!

The close to 15-year-old rescue tools that the Fire Department has been using were getting wore out and in need of retirement. These new battery powered tools will open the ability to be more mobile and speed up extrication as our previous tools were limited to the reach of the hoses from the Rescue Truck.

We would like to thank our community and donors over the years. Without your support at fundraisers and events, this would not have been possible.

Thank-you to the Town of Elk Point and the County of St. Paul No. 19 for continuing to support the Fire Department in ensuring we have the equipment capable to do the job we need to do.

The Firefighters spent their Tuesday evening training on the new tools and brushing up on skills.

Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and recognize the incredible women who make our fire service family and our communities stronger every day.

A huge thank you to the women who are currently serving and those who have previously served with the Elk Point Fire Department. Your dedication, courage, and commitment to protecting our community do not go unnoticed. You continue to inspire the next generation of firefighters and leaders.

We also want to extend our appreciation to all women serving as first responders across every sector — fire, EMS, police, dispatch, healthcare, and emergency services. Your strength, professionalism, and compassion make a difference in people’s lives every single day.

We also want to recognize the fire wives and partners who stand behind us. When the tones drop and we have to leave the table, the house, or family time to answer a call, you are the ones holding things together at home. Your support, patience, and understanding make it possible for us to do what we do.

Simply put, we couldn’t do this without the women in our lives — both on the department and at home.
From all of us at the Elk Point Fire Department, thank you and Happy International Women’s Day! 🚒❤️
