We’ve made the unfortunate decision to discontinue our monthly Bingo nights moving forward.

Over the past couple of Bingo nights, attendance has been very small, with only 1–2 people joining us. We’ve really enjoyed hosting Bingo, but with our hall being run by a very small handful of volunteers, we need to be mindful of where we’re putting our time and energy.

We’re taking some time to regroup and plan for 2027. Our well-attended community events will absolutely continue, and we’re also looking forward to coming up with some new events and ideas to try.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our Bingo nights—we truly appreciate it! ❤️ We’re excited for what’s ahead and continuing to bring our community together.

Playground update.

I know this is a hard ask, especially after such a long wait, but we are asking that everyone using the playground please respect our request to stay off the newly laid sod until the signs are down. I know it’s hard to explain to kids but their little feet sink deep and we want them to love this playground like their own.

The sod is surviving the heat thanks to lots of water but this makes the soil squishy underneath until the roots establish and hold things in place. There have been bike tracks and foot prints which makes the sod edges separate, it then dries out and dies. I was a landscaper and have seen how messed up things can get if the sod is used too soon. If a ball goes onto the sod walk flat footed and slow.

About 120 volunteer hours went into the soil prep and sod laying and we’re moving sprinklers 12x a day to keep it happy. Please respect the time that people are putting in and I will let people loose as soon as I can and the few weeks of waiting will be worth it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who turned up tonight to lay sod and line paint, we are completely blown away by tonight’s turn out! The kids have test run the new space and have given thumbs up all around. Three more days until the grand opening of our new recreation space and feeling so grateful for the incredible community that we are lucky to call our friends and neighbours.

Elko Playground Grand Opening 🛝 🏀 🎾

We are pleased to announce the opening of the new Elko recreation space, next Saturday, July 25th from 12pm - 3pm. The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony, BBQ, free refreshments, and an opportunity to celebrate with friends, and members of the community. Everyone welcome and we would love to see the community out to celebrate!

On behalf of the Elko playground committee, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude for your support, encouragement, and contributions throughout our journey in the conception, fundraising and completion of our Community Playground. Your confidence in our vision has played an important role in helping us reach this exciting milestone for our community.

A couple of big shout outs today for the playground project đź“Ł

First of all Matt Frost and Scotty Snider for using your weekend to tackle the extensive landscaping work! Also to Elk River Mountain Homes and Mow and Snow for donating use of equipment to get this work done.

Allanand Vivian Dixon, for your impromptu help this morning with your backhoe, as well as for donating a couple of loads of topsoil towards the project. Completely unexpected help, but much appreciated.

Finally to the handful of people who came out to help at the workbee this morning. A few more holes dug, some tidying accomplished and all of the bottles from the bottle drive brought back to Cranbrook.

There is still a lot of work to do and we’ll need as many hands as possible the evening of the 23rd when we lay sod. If anyone is able to help this evening, please reach out to Laura or Matt Frost.

A big day forward for the project! Two more weeks until the grand opening!
