Message from Splatsin Chief & Council Regarding the October 17 Local Government Election and Area F Director Allysa Hopkins

2026 Local Government Election – October 17

Over the past four years, our community has seen Area F Director Allysa Hopkins stand alongside Splatsin leadership on issues that matter to our families and our future.

The working relationship we have developed with Allysa Hopkins is unprecedented in our experience with previous Electoral Area F Directors. Never before have we experienced this level of engagement, collaboration, and commitment to building a strong relationship between Splatsin and the Regional District of North Okanagan.

Allysa has made it a priority to listen, show up, and work alongside our leadership on issues that matter to our people. This represents a meaningful step forward in strengthening our government-to-government relationship.

From advancing the Shuswap North Okanagan Rail Trail along Mara Lake to attending the groundbreaking of Splatsin Homes in Enderby and the groundbreaking and opening of Shyhyla School, Allysa has been present for important milestones in our community. She has also joined us for the Truth and Reconciliation march and ceremony, standing alongside our community in remembrance, reflection, and reconciliation.

Her involvement has also included sponsoring SDC’s annual golf tournaments, partnering on the After Hours Hoops youth basketball program, and taking to the court herself in Splatsin’s Charity Basketball Game. These efforts bring people together, support our youth, and strengthen connections between our communities.

Allysa has also supported regional district funding for the Splatsin Monument Project and expressed support for Splatsin delivering health services within our own community. These are examples of the collaboration and mutual respect that have characterized our working relationship.

Our communities share important priorities, and the progress made over the past four years demonstrates what is possible when we work together. We believe in continuing to strengthen these relationships, creating opportunities for our families, and building a positive future for generations to come.

As October 17 approaches, we encourage everyone to vote and participate in the local government election, and to consider the importance of strong leadership, meaningful partnerships, and continued collaboration when casting their ballots.

Get out and vote. Exercise your right to have a say in the future of your community. Your voice matters.

🚨 MISSING TAPPEN BLUFFS SCULPTURE

The Secwépemc Landmarks Project Team is asking for the public’s help following the disappearance of the Tappen Bluffs sculpture.

The approximately 700-lb stone sculpture and 200-lb metalwork sculpture were discovered missing from the Tappen Bluffs site in July. The landmark was created through collaboration between Secwépemc and settler artisans, guided by the knowledge and stories of more than 75 Secwépemc Elders from participating communities, including Splatsin.

Anyone with information about the missing sculpture is encouraged to contact their local RCMP and reference file #26-4539.
