Township of Baldwin

Township of Baldwin The Township of Baldwin is a bedroom community adjacent to the Town of Espanola. The hamlet is locat The Township was surveyed in 1871 and subdivided in 1885.

It was named after Mr. F.A. Baldwin. The train station was first called Stanley in 1908, then changed to Espanola Station in 1919. Due to the confusion of having two Espanola Stations, in 1931 our name was changed to McKerrow, named after J.O. McKerrow, a traffic manager for the Abitibi Pulp and Paper Co. It has been said that Jack McKerrow was also the inventor of the unit train. Many mining expl

orations took place over the years, i.e. gold and other precious metals, as well as uranium. In June of 1969, Kidd Copper Mines Limited leased an existing mine and commenced shipping copper until September 1970. The Township of Baldwin was incorporated in 1927.

It is disappointing to see the amount of litter being left behind at our public beach and throughout the Township.

Our staff work hard to keep our parks, roadsides, public spaces, and beach areas clean and welcoming for everyone to enjoy. Seeing garbage left behind impacts the natural beauty of our community and can be harmful to wildlife and the environment.

We kindly ask all residents and visitors to do their part by disposing of waste properly, using available garbage bins, or taking their garbage home if bins are full.

A reminder to property owners with properties across the lake: garbage is not to be left at the beach or public access points. Please take your waste with you and dispose of it properly at the Dodge Haulage Landfill site using your Township-issued garbage card.

Let's work together to keep our Township clean, safe, and beautiful for everyone. Please respect our public spaces and leave them better than you found them.

Thank you for your cooperation and for taking pride in our community.
