A question we’ve heard is:
“What happens to the building? Does a private company own it forever?”
Here’s the answer:
✔️ The Province maintains long-term control
✔️ If the agreement ends, the facility must be sold back to the government
✔️ In some cases, that transfer can be for as little as $1
This means the nursing home remains part of the public system, even under this delivery model.
It’s not a permanent hand-off. There are safeguards in place.

One of the biggest questions we’ve heard is about staff, and it’s an important one.
Here’s what the Province’s RFP confirms:
✔️ All current Estevan Regional Nursing Home staff will transfer to the new facility
✔️ Their union agreements and bargaining rights remain in place
✔️ This is a required, non-negotiable part of the agreement
That means the same dedicated people who care for residents today will continue to be part of the new home.
And with a larger facility, there will also be new job opportunities in our community.
