ROCHE PERCEE - The "Stonehenge" of Saskatchewan Canada!
- Season 1 / Episode 7 -
In 2013, We headed to Roche Percee to investigate all the great tales from this place such as the "Rugaroos" (are believed to be ancient Indian spirits that change into animals, most commonly the coyote) as well as the location possibly having ties to Jack The Ripper!
This location was a Religious site for the Native Assiniboine (Assnipwan, Stone Sioux) Tribes in this area.
In the Spring and Fall they would perform religious ceremonies at this site, leaving gifts to "Manitou" (one of the Deities or Spirits dominating the forces of Nature)
"The name is a translation of the Nakota imyan-oghok referring to the nearby βPierced Rockβ landmark.
La Roche Percee was also prominent during the European exploration and settlement periods. The site appears on early maps, and is mentioned in the 1853 annals of an American expedition surveying for a railroad route to the Pacific.
Palliser's party visited the rock a few years later, followed in 1874 by George Dawson of the International Boundary Commission. The North-West Mounted Police camped near the rock on their march west, and members of Custer's U.S. 7th Cavalry are rumoured to have visited.
