Spending time near the water is one of the best parts of summer but safety should always come first.
Ontario Drowning Facts from the 2025 report:
▪️ 78% of drowning victims are male
▪️ 68% occur between May and September
▪️ Only 1% happen in lifeguard-supervised settings
▪️ Most incidents occur in lakes/ponds (47%) and rivers (20%)
▪️ Highest-risk age groups: 20–34, 50–64, and 65+

⚠️ Common risk factors:
▪️ Not wearing a lifejacket
▪️ Alcohol use
▪️ Swimming or boating alone
▪️ Weak or non-swimmers
▪️ Lack of supervision
Simple actions save lives:
✔️ Wear a lifejacket
✔️ Stay sober on the water
✔️ Never swim alone
✔️ Actively supervise children
✔️ Choose lifeguard-supervised areas when possible
