Spending time near the water is one of the best parts of summer but safety should always come first.

Ontario Drowning Facts from the 2025 report:
▪️ 78% of drowning victims are male
▪️ 68% occur between May and September
▪️ Only 1% happen in lifeguard-supervised settings
▪️ Most incidents occur in lakes/ponds (47%) and rivers (20%)
▪️ Highest-risk age groups: 20–34, 50–64, and 65+

View the full report here:https://lifesaving.ca/wp-content/uploads/2025/07/ON-Fatal-Infographic-2025_EN_Final.pdf

⚠️ Common risk factors:
▪️ Not wearing a lifejacket
▪️ Alcohol use
▪️ Swimming or boating alone
▪️ Weak or non-swimmers
▪️ Lack of supervision

Simple actions save lives:
✔️ Wear a lifejacket
✔️ Stay sober on the water
✔️ Never swim alone
✔️ Actively supervise children
✔️ Choose lifeguard-supervised areas when possible

This week the contractor continued the installation of sanitary services and main line storm sewer from Hill Street to Wellington. Road work commenced with excavation to subgrade and placing granular road base on the west side of Main Street. Next week the contractor will continue the installation of the sanitary services and continue the storm sewer installation from Wellington to Victoria Street. Road work will continue next week with excavation to subgrade and placing granular road base. Northbound traffic (one lane) will remain on Main Street; and southbound traffic will continue to be detoured onto Church and William Street until construction is complete on the west side of Main Street.

Businesses remain open during construction; access to homes and businesses will be reasonably maintained throughout construction. With traffic disrupted and detours in place, please expect delays and plan accordingly.
Your patience and understanding is greatly appreciated.

This afternoon, the South Huron Team is conducting a table-top emergency management training exercise with our service agency partners.

We work through scenarios to help us refine plans and practice our response to maintain public services.

This year's mock event: a brutal winter storm!
